no problems, only happy to help!

ouija - Should I make new threads of the mini-guides I've made, or are they okay in-line here?

If you still need help with this let me know. I've drawn one and its fairly simple to do. I saved it as a component, and I can try to make a mini tutorial for it if you want...I've never done it before. Also, if you didn't know, the sketchup website does offer many tutorial videos online to view. http://www.sketchup.com/training.php

All of these are very basic sketchup techniques and have video tutorials relating to them. Check www.sketchup.com for more info.

can you make a pipe with a elbow?
like a pipe to 90 degrees bend (round) and then continue.

I could use a tutorial on layers since they do not work like photoshop layers or layers as 99% of other programs use them.

The other thing I cant figure out is how I can have 1 model part on page one and another model part on page 2 then both on page 3. If I download the pillbox demo and look at the trainer settings nothing is hidden, so I dont understand how they made both parts seperate. when I try and do that within sketchup any components I have added to a particular page effects ALL pages .

the pipe elbow is easy with the follow-me tool.
draw the profile of the pipe (which you may already have) and then draw the curve you want it to follow.

I don't have SkUp on the machine I'm using at the mo, so can't really help with the other questions.

KoH, Can you explain more what you mean about the layers?
AFAIK, each object is on a layer (only one), and the layers palette toggles whether or not the items on that layer are visible.

In fact, that might be the answer to your second question.

    Let us know...

This thread somehow got lost to me. Anyway no I still cant figure it out. Layers make no sense at all to me. Neither does the tour guide. basically all I want to do is have 1 part of my model on page 1 one part of my model on page 2 and both parts on page 3. This way I can work on them independently without 2 instances of sketchup. Every time I try and do anything it affects all pages in the tourguide.

the best way to separately edit parts of one drawing is to group it. then you can 'edit' component, and the rest will be greyed out.

I think you know that layers != tour-pages.
best to assign parts to layers, then set up the tour.

I can and do use grouping. I group tons of stuff. it makes things easier that way. There is only so much realestate on the screen no matter how much you group, you need room to draw. Shifting the screen all over the place bites. It would just be easier to work on different parts of the model on different pages if I wish.

    *edit

I was able to get the layers working. so things are getting easier. Each couple of weeks that pass it seems like less time is wasted.

    just watch the online tutorials.

    [
Use the Rectangle tool, draw a square, then use the Push/Pull tool to pull it up into a cube.
Bear in mind the fact that Sketchup was designed to be use for architecture design, and so works best if you make Floor-plans first, then pull it up into 3D

Wow, I've been playing with Sketchup today. It's a great program.

My question is: Has everyone here paided $475 for this program? That is a lot of cash for a program.

I quess, I'll just get my 8 hours out of it, hopefully I can learn enuff to design my idea in that time.

    I'm out

<Back on topic> i would really like to see a tutorial on how to:

export sketchup files ---> Import into a rendering program ---> Render

..ok so i can export files, but id like to know what format is best/need etc. I like the default cell shaded appearence of sketchup, but would like to be able to render it in diff ways. i havent rendered a single thing before, so an easy tutorial would make the writer my new best friend! :D

I like to use sketchup to draw mecha/robots and although i can model them fine, id like to be able to render them better to make them look more real, thanks in adance.
