I have two Citrix servers running MetraFrame XP 1.0 wiht SP2 on Windows 2000 Server. Both machines have decided not to allow logins anymore. The issue looks like a problem with the GINA and probably caused by the rollup1 but they are not installed.

What happens is when the machines boot, everything appears normal until it gets to the blue background that normally has the Windows splash screen that shows the progress (I.E. regestering networking connections, loading personal settings, etc). Then it would go to the press ctl+alt+del to logon. However, on both machines, these windows never appear. That is my problem

Yes I can boot to safe mode. Yes I can access both machines from the network. So it appears that the GINA is not working. I know there is a patch from Citrix about this type of problem but fist, it is a patch for the rollup 1 which is not installed, and second I neecd the windows installer to install the MSI which will not run in safe mode.

PLEASE HELP! I have 37 people not able to login to Citrix and not productive.

Thanks Animus but that page cannot be displayed. I really don't want to replace GINA, just make it work. Also, an interesting follow up. After working on the servers for hours, i managed to fill the system logs. Not a big deal, but during the startup when i expect to see dialog boxes about the logon process and don't, I did get a dialog box about the full log. So, the boxes for logon do not appear, but other boxes do. I am at my wits end. :wallbash:

Problem resolved. It appears that APC has let their certificate with MS expire (as of yesterday). Any server running an older copy of the APC Agent will have problems. MS is aware and will publish but not yet. FYI for anyone having issues with their Win 2000 servers, disable any APC services! :D

Windows really need to make services as well behaved as usermode programs don't they, roll on longhorn :)

Let me get this straight, APC let their certificate expire, so you system filled the log with errors about this, so GINA didn't load. Thats so incredibly crap.

Nothing wrong with replacing GINA because of a miss behaving service :p

Actually, the expired certificate did NOT generate errors. That would have been helpful! GINA appeared to be working when I got the log full mesage box, but the expired cert would not allow the logion box to appear. The serivce for the APC agent started but halted the system boot with out any error in the log, Dr Watson, etc. I was able to browse the drive from the network and see logs in safe mode, but when the service started, BOOM. To MS credit, they are refunding the incident. :eeek:
