I have a 256gb samsung ssd in my M11X. When I first got the computer I benched it using crystal disk mark. The write speeds were 90MB/s ish. 18 months later the write speed has gone down to 23MB/s. The read speed has stayed pretty much the same. I have reinstalled windows twice since new.

How can I restore my ssd back to peak performance? I read somewhere that if I erase the disk completely, ie write over all the data with 0's I will restore my write speed.

If this is right what program is best to use?

    Cheers,

    Tom.

Writing the disk with 0s is the last thing you want to do. You want to do a secure erase. An easy way to do it is with parted magic (you can write it to a CD or USB stick to boot).

it's 1s that you need... (& remember that a full format will write 0s)

You can try AS-Clean with the FF option ticked to see if that helps...

...if not then it's a SE (as teppic rightly said) - which of course you 'should' have done before reinstalling Windows each time.

[Edit] Do not use this method on any SF controller SSD...
