You need to use the Group Policy Editor. Goto-->run and type gpedit.msc. There are all kinds of nifty things to mess with in there. :thumb:

Try downloading 1st Security Agent - no link but you will find it in google!

iirc you get a 30 day trial which should be more than enough - the restrictions stay in place after the trial. There is an option in there somewhere to only allow IE to access the internet. I used it on my brothers xp account on the family PC to stop him screwing it up :D

And the reason why the group policy editor doesn't work is because it isn't in XP Home, its in XP Pro

Hey a9on87, thanx for the info. I did not realize xp home didn't have the group policy editor, heh you learn something new every day. :)

thats exactly what problem i have every body thinks they can use this computer (and they can't) i gave up on unhooking it and hiding it because it take to long to hook up

thanks it works like a charm i only want to allow acces to 1 program thats internet explorer its wonder full because it wont even let them login to their web messenger(if i let them on that they wont log off) but they can check mail do research and thats good enough i bought the full version

if you d/l TweakUI for xp, will it allow you to access it in xp home? i know it makes it easy to find gpedit in pro ... didnt know if home had it hidden or just didnt have it at all.
(in over 2 years of runnin xp, ive never touched home)

see but you don't under stand is xp home edition is just a scaled down version of xp pro alot of features that aare avilable in xp pro are still avalible in xp home its just harder to get to

    For instance
under file restricktions on microsofts website ( the one that a9on87 hyperlinked) says xp home does not have the feature to restrick files and drives

now if you go in to safe mode in xp home right click on drive/file you wou want go to propertys and then security you can chose wether you want the user to be able to see it or not be able to open it or not or edit it or not ect.

or you can go the easy way and get what was mentioned by a9on87 "1st Security Agent "which is more than a great app for windows computers with more than one user. all it basicly does is a nice gui that lets you tweak the registry

there is a few more that microsoft says windows xp home doesn't have
i know a few but i don't know all of them but im shure with a few tweaks and stuff you can get a whole lot more out of windows xp home it wont be easy though
