Cool - A scene showing Vader calling out to Luke as he finishes constructing his light-sabre:

Of course, with George showing this footage, that means that there will be another special edition coming out [KERCHING!] ;) - I guess on the the complete BR Boxset that's coming out later on? (Hopefully sans whooping and hollering)

I hate fans. All fans of all varieties, of everything, ever. They make everyone else embarrassed to admit they like the objects of their fandom.

Now, for instance, it's going to be difficult to watch the original trilogy without imagining over-the-top frantic whoops of joy everytime something cool happens.

Anyway, there are so many versions of these films now that it's unlikely the BR will be what I want of it: remastered, with extra scenes like this, but without all the retrospectively-added CGI flairs (all the huge monsters, the horrible dancing alien, etc.) Chances of him releasing specifically that? Slim. He's very proud of his OTT CGI bollocks.

So long as the BR edition has Han shooting first, I'm fine.

    Its quite an achievement really.

Even after bringing me such great things as Starwars and Day of the Tenticle, I still can't stand George Lucas.

If they're not bringing the originals I'm not buying them. Even if they are gloriously good-looking in HD.

I'll just have to get another copy of the originals on DVD and lock it away! :D

Empire is the best film and has no retarded CGI bits in it (just mattes and lasers and such) so therefore will ROCK MY FACE.

Hopefully. Still resisted 'sourcing' 1080p versions of the films already.

But it does have CGI rubbish in it now, that's the version coming on BR. :(

It doesn't have anything obscene though. Like Jabba and the Stormtroopers on Dewbacks in IV or the awful singing alien in VI... This is actually what I wrote my dissertation on, hahaha.

The CGI'd Special Edition version of Empire is the best version by miles. They didn't add any CGI monsters or whatever, just touched up all the blasters, lightsabers and the glass mattes are replaced with amazing CGI ones. It's all unnoticeable which makes it awesome.

Fair enough, I'll defer to obvious superior knowledge. I haven't bothered watching it. After IV I couldn't stand to watch any of the others. I saw them when they came out, but that was so long ago I can't remember V or VI. :)

Fun fact; the CGI bits in IV were clearly so bad that the version they released on DVD has a whole new animated Jabba in place!

    ...and it's still utterly craptacular!

But Empire has none of this nonsense, thank heavens.

And hardly any of the CGI actually adds anything to the films!

Better effects for ships - the X-Wings before the battle of Yavin, Improving the Falcon's engine glow = good, an actual improvement in the quality of the films.
Pointless, random, 'comedy' moments - the whole landspeeder into Mos Eisley bit = awful, and completely unnecessary. Add in some extra vehicles, background hustle and bustle sure, but silly little skits given full focus in centre screen? Why??

The special editions aren't all bad, it's just that there are more bad additions than good ones.

You're not wrong. This was the whole crux of my dissertation.

    TL;DR?

Empire is good. Other two, bad.

I've been thinking about this clip, I've seen the part with Luke assembling the lightsabre before but not the part with Vader. I distinctly remember seeing Luke hooded and building the lightsabre, testing it and then the shot of C-3PO - just can't recall where.
