Hi there, I've noticed that there are very few reviews (if any in English!) of the newer Chieftec cases -- the last reviews seem to be of the dragon series, years ago. Would it be possible for BiT to get an exclusive on this? Judging by the Chieftec website, they have nobody who can speak english at their headquarters: maybe there're no reviews because nobody can request a case for review?. There was an artice on BiT a while ago, but it hasn't been restored since the move... Thanks for any feedback! ch424
sorry to jump in and ask a off topic question its just i didnt see the point in starting a new thread and the issue has already sort of been raised in ch424's post. but any sort of ETA when more of the articals are going to be up (hardware in the main)?? only realy just noticed there was so little in the hardware archive because im looking to upgrade and need some PSU advice and found there was infact only 1 very short psu review within the entire archive.
Ch424: we'll see what we can do mate. Mattt: as has been stated many times, any old content is only ported now on demand. The process is quite labour intensive, so we're not going to torture ourselves just to have a Hardware Archive of 200 reviews I'm afraid mate. If there are any specific reviews or articles that got left out of the initial Porting process, we're more than happy to consider converting them on a case-by-case basis. However, things move on so quickly these days that many of the products we have reviewed over the years have either been replaced or are otherwise no longer available. We figure you'd rather we spend our time on the latest gear rather than porting content nobody is interested in any longer.
S'OK mate - I can't expect everyone to read every thread. So it just means me repeating certain messages every now & then. For fun, I just did some rough calculations, and I reckon it would take someone working 100% full time, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and entire THREE MONTHS to port all of our backcatalogue. I know for a fact that much of it is never read any longer, as I personally ranked all our content before we redesigned so we'd know what was still popular a year later and what wasn't. In the end, we converted over 100 articles for the relaunch, and I have converted several more at the request of readers since May, such as Macro Black. It's a system that works well enough.
Aha -- in that case, please could I request for the mid-tower group test to be restored? Many thanks, ch424
Sounds like a job opportunity On a more serious note, ever thought of asking for some volunteers to help out? I'm sure there would be plenty of people to help convert some of the older articles / guides that could still help new modders today?
ch424 - I have added this to the list. How long it will take me depends on how many pages it is, and what the original code is like. Oh, and how much time I can spare away from all the really cool new stuff going on right now. -H- - thanks for the offer mate, but there are too many pitfalls with having volunteers covert content. I mean, the tasks that *can* be outsourced don't actually save that much time compared with all the other related tasks that can only be performed by a staff member. So I appreciate the gesture, but best to just flag anything you need and be patient. Honestly, my stats system shows me what old content is in demand, and we have worked hard to make sure 95% of that stuff is already ported. There is a case of diminishing returns if someone spends 30-60 minutes porting an article that only 5 people per month want to read.
Well seeing as BiT is a modding site originally, bring back the old articles that actually brought a lot of peopl e here like myself. Quite a few of them were jsut 1 page or so.
I'm putting myself in the firing line here, but there really is little point, Fatboy. The market was very different back when you joined 4 years ago in 2001. For example, Macro was arguably the first person to add LEDs to casefans, but you've been able to buy them off the shelf for years now, so nobody cares any more. Equally, a "case mod" in 2001 consisted of a single side window (oh!) and, wait for it, a coloured neon light (ah!). To say standards have moved on since then is something of an understatement. If you wander through the Modding Archive, http://www.bit-tech.net/archive/modding/ you will find the best / most popular of the old content. As I said earlier, I have stats on a per-article basis, and the reality is that many of these ancient articles have so little demand in 2005 that they don't justify the work to convert them. I do have a list of stuff that has been requested, and that's the key: there would easily be 100 articles that nobody has missed, because nobody has said a word. Anything that someone says "hey, where is XYZ" is worth converting. Everything else is quietly in storage. I'm sure most people would far rather read about emerging technologies like HDR, reviews of the latest ATI & NVIDIA graphics cards and next-gen console news rather than us spend time converting, for example, Wil's Xbox 1 feature that is over 3 years old now. Does that make sense?
what your saying does make sense. but like uwannabigmak said how bout making all the articals that havent been converted over to the new format being put back up in the old format?? i dont think many people would mind it not being in the shiny new bit-tech style. its the content that matters to us.
It's not a case of aesthetics - the databases are totally different and afaik there's just no way to do it. I'm sure RTT might be able to explain the technicalities. And anyway, that's exactly the question: ARE you missing something? Nobody wants to read a heatsink review from 2002 - trust me.
"Nobody wants to read a heatsink review from 2002 - trust me." but thats not what im asking for. im asking for the reviews to come back which are still relevant, like more of the stuff from 2004. Such as DDR RAM reviews, since currently there is only one review and i seem to rember there being a comparison of differnt RAM at some point. and there were the A64 reviews. currently there are 8 reviews on here from 2004 and 2 only of them are non-graphic card related. now i feel huge amount of the stuff in 2004 is still very relavent to now. and i recon alot of the people on here will still go out and buy 2004 hardware, any people still to upgrade to A64 are likly to unless they can afford the high end stuff anyway what i was trying to get accross was that bit-tech is great for the bleeding edge, but alot of us on here arnt at the bleeding edge because we cant afford it, so atm bit-tech is lacking information when we try to upgrade. the only way to resolve it is for us either to look for our info else where for a year untill we can afford the hardware your reviewing now (which i would rather not since i trust bit-tech's reviews), or for some more reviews to be converted over. well that realy was a rather disjointed post
