Hey, 1st post, been lurking for a bit.

Im kind of stuck and wondering if there was interest in helping on an little RFID development project. Me and my friend want to get a basic RFID reader and tag to communicate and send data to a PC through ethernet.

We are ordering an RFID dev. kit and recently got a FREE! :thumb: microcontroller from freescale. It has serial, ethernet, and free unused IO pins. We're working on a prototype system that can track and monitor the tag and see how many times, and at what times the tag passes the reader. This can be implemented in many ways, ie. RC race cars, track pets...

Anyway, we want the reader to communicate through ethernet into the computer, so the computer can sit anywhere. Thats where the freescale controller comes in to pass the data from the reader onto ethernet.

Im pretty good with pure programming in C++, some vhdl, java, html and some of the other basics. But was wondering, if anyone had any direction they could point me to, so that I would be able to take that data from ethernet and put it to use onthe computer. Id like to eventually tally up the data onto a text file.

Would i be needing some sort of low level, operating system coding to communicate through the ethernet? Or can i get some kind of higher level, which i can just pass through the data through windows into excel or notepad? Are there programs already out there for this?

any help is appreciated. thanks for helping out.
