I recently just ordered myself some rheostats... but the thing is.. the part where you attach the knob to is sooo long.. so when i put the rheostat behind my drivebay, the front knob is so long that my actual knob fits only half way into it and it looks retarded cuz my actual knob is not even touching my drivebay. There's like a gap between the knob and the drivebay. So my question is, could I cut the front part to make it shorter or would that be a no no? Sounds kinda confusing maybe but i dunno what the front part is called.. its just the part you screw your knob onto. Ah! the part that rotates! Anyways, i'm afraid that if i cut it, it'll be destroyed.. and i dont have enough to try! lemme know please...
i see... but the thing is.. i have switches too.. :T so if i push it back, then it would be difficult to access the switches.. any other ideas?
fohkus: I cut the pots that I used. I just gripped the shaft with my needle nose vice grips and cut off the end with a hack saw. It's kinda hard to hold those little suckers, but with some persistence it can be done. And it doesn't hurt the pot at all.
