Ive got some maplins rheos Ive got a pile of the maplins which i bought when they were running out. Email me at jon.dixon@ntlworld.com and tell me how many you need.
I dont know im new to this just found it on another diagram thought it might work just want to know if a pot will work instead of a rheostat but hopefully jondixon will help me with the rheostat:dude:
No, just a pot won't help.. you need something that will handle a few watts, most pots are only rated at around .10 .50 watts and would just burn up with a fan..
Salvation is at hand. The potentiometers you're after can be found at TechnologySupplies.co.uk. Look under Design + Technology> potentiometers>wirewound. Slightly diff. design to Mappers ones, and rated to 5watts. Keeps me 80mm case fans under control! Good source for windows acrylic and plastic tubes to house Mappers CCFL's in.
Could i run a 120mm fan with those? Bearing in mind this controls my rad temp so i dont want it to conk out on me at any time...
you cant use a .50 watt pot to control a 3 watt fan. the easiet solution for you is to look up your fan specs and buy a rheostat that is greater than the wattage. something like 5 watt 100ohm most likely would be fine but no promises
