    Also from El Reg:

The Recording Industry Ass. of America (RIAA) will shortly offer an amnesty to individual copyright infringers, sparing alleged violators the threat of legal action if they delete all unauthorised copies of music they possess and publicly promise to be good in future.

So claim unnamed sources cited by Reuters - the RIAA itself has yet to comment on the matter.

I like the way they're tackling the pirated music problem by just failing with every tactic they use and then moving onto another :)

In all honesty, I think the artists that are actually suffering as a result of the MP3 boom are the ones that will still sell plenty of CDs to earn a handsome living anyway. I personally download a lot of music, but mostly I discover new bands I like and end up buying their CDs anyway, thus giving my money to the smaller artists who need it more.

It's a hard thing to resolve though. From the RIAA's point of view I totally agree that file sharing is damaging the music industry; but then it wouldn't be such a huge problem if they weren't charging horrendous amounts for a CD.

it would be quite funny to share it all see if they say anything...

the stuff i listen to only comes out on vinyl, and only dj's purchase it so downloading for them does nothing but good as it advertises their work.
