After just moving into halls of residence at uni (freshers year) I built my comp, and it decided it was too noisy when trying to do some serious work (read: playing games, and watching anime in bed). I decided to build a fanbus with rotary switches to control the fans speed. This was my first mod, and I was just looking to get it working so I could knock the edge of the fan noise. Here's the finished result mounted in my case (my dad drilled the 5 1/2 plate when he came to visit. All I had was a soldering iron & solder.. borrowed in true student fashion and my penknife. The rotary switches hadn't been cut down cause Maplins hadn't delivered my aluminum knobs yet.. (and they still haven't ! ) And here it is again from the front. Doesn't look too bad does it ? Now check out the wiring ! EEEEEEUUUUUUUUWWWWW And now from the back! Check out the LED's stuck in place with Blu-Tack... I decided that using heat shrink for this joint wasn't old-skool enough so I used a plaster instead. (It was the first thing I found...) A nightmare no? But hey it worked, and people were impressed and everything. The wiring design was classic, it looked like a 4 year old had drew it with crayons, and I did it while severly hung-over (the design, not the soldering...). It's a pity I've lost it. Anyway I've unsoldered the lot and I'm going again soon, hopefully my knobs will have arrived by then. But I'm not holding my breath.
man that is some ugly wiring, still i have a switch plate ( 3.5 drive plate) with 4 un wired things, waiting to be wired to lights and a bay hdd fan. at lease you designed a wiring scheame....
What you need is one of my interface01 PCBs help clear that wiring job out!! Check the link in my sig
Update! After nearly a year I've finally got around to re-doing this bad boy. Check it out : New Fanbus
