This is a valid complaint and I thoroughly agree with it. Every now and then I meet a literate, mature player in Warcraft and we spend half an hour ranting about how face-meltingly stupid and childish the playerbase is.

It's only getting worse as the game becomes more 'accessible' and user-friendly. Back when it was a life-consuming pile of elitism, people at least learned a degree of patience and cooperation.

My personal biggest reason for playing Rift over trying WoW again is world PvP. What I've seen of Cataclysm's changes doesn't really do much to help the situation, a lot of the problems stemmed from the last patches of BC and most of WotLK. It's been pushed too mainstream, attempts to get more people fighting out in the world inevitably came with ways of making it easier for Average Joe to find an enemy and have a decent chance of winning, thus taking all the fun out of having to find players and quite likely not having a fair fight at all! Half the people in any given world fight are just there for some sort of achievement or reward, there's no gratification left. No epic tales of triumph and glory! Rift's a little more reward based than I like, but at least for now world PvP happens plenty often with no motive other than fun.

And just a mini-rant: I hate the For The <Faction> achievements. Totally ruined city raids. Everyone and their mother has now downed all the enemy leaders, who cares? Although my claim to fame will always be four-manning Velen at 4am on a low pop server. :D

Well, I've got the Collectors Edition.

I've played in the betas and I know just how important the extra space at the start was/is. The top level Outfitters in my guild (1st guild on server, has the most individual shard/server first awards) are only just getting onto the 22 slot bags.

As for the Tartagon mount, I had access to that at lvl 6 or 7 (right after clearing the starting area and getting to the first available mailbox). Saves you spending the 2+ plat on a mount (I'm constantly broke, working on my artifacts)

    Warrior: DeadBolt
    Cleric: Aurele

quick question guys - if you have bought RIFT as a physical copy, can you register it on steam?

just noticed it's on steam but I ordered it from amazon cause its £7 cheaper and i have amazon prime so i get the 1 day delivery. + my internet would seriously take 4 days just to download RIFT so even buying it on steam was out of the question.

YMMV, but I don't call hugely unfair fights fun, which is what PvP was full of before they introduced resilience. Unbalanced gameplay is only fun when you've got the upper hand, and then only briefly. World PvP of the type you're describing usually came down to fights that lasted 3 seconds in which one person had no chance of winning. That's not fun, that's bullying.

I think you're right, it's definitely a case of varied mileage. I've been thinking of how to reply and it always breaks down to "but that's the thrill!" :hehe: Travelling in packs, getting high level escorts, switching to your main, etc. all the stuff that people either fundamentally do or don't enjoy.

Back on the topic of Rift, their PvP servers bring a lot of that back, and the current game balance makes high and low lever characters less far apart in abilities (we'll see how expansions effect that), so I like it. Haven't gotten far enough on a PvE server to comment on how their world PvP is.

To add to the world pvp. I'm level 30 in darkshore or something along those lines and I've come across a fair amount of the other faction. I normally stay back, give a wave and if they wave I'm not afraid to go on my business, if I'm questing I really don't care about them. Other times when I'm bored of questing I'll go around and see if I can kill anyone. I hate going to a rift and finding MANY of them and getting butthurt though. Also, it's kind of sad when theres a group running around and theres 1 40-50 range character just "defending" meanwhile they chase you around and verbally harass you.

I have now found a guild though, so this should help cut down on that. A nice friendly "WTB HELP" in /g should solve the issue with a few people coming to my rescue. More to my original point, there are actually many people in the contested areas which makes world pvp reasonably positive.

Have you tried going to Foul Cascade yet? One way up to the instance and both factions have stakes in the area. My first run up as Defiant proved to be pretty scary with Guardians all around, but we seem to have struck a deal: they saw I didn't want trouble and was just going to the instance. Best not to hold someone up only to have the rest of their group arrive!

I can see FC pretty quickly becoming infamous for epic adventures getting to the entrance. :D

I decided against going for a PvP server in the end due to bad experiences in WoW while trying to lvl and having someone attacking you a lot when you just want to keep to yourself and level. 'Then why join a pvp server' I hear everyone ask........ergo ;)

Am I going to miss out on a lot?

Well open pvp adds an extra element of surprise and excitement. When you get higher level and start planning raid groups to camp certain places and than the other factions decides to counter than it turns into a gank fest. Can be very fun

Rift has been my first experience of playing an MMO and I have to say I've found it quite enjoyable. The use of the Rift dynamic - and the fact that they can appear at any time - really makes the world feel alive. That said, the quests leave a little to be desired. At Level 20 I'm still doing 'Bring me 4 bits of special stone' quests. Hopefully they improve later on.

I need to get back into playing it really. :)

Hi guys. I'm seriously tempted by Rift after quitting WoW a few months ago. Just got a bit bored of it and looking for something fresh. I hated WoW's PvP system because I loved world PvP but they nerfed that into oblivion and preferred people playing in very fixed boring match style PvP. Rift seems to have more spontaneity. Sometimes I'm busy with work and can't play that much in a week, like only 1 hour a night, is the game friendly to that playstyle? My other option is to give Cataclysm another go.

Yeah I would say it can be. You wont be able to get much done in a hour, probably only a few quests & a couple of rifts. But like most mmo's it has a habit of sucking you in & before you realise it, 6 hours have passed :p

Rift is the Main MMO I play at mo until GW2 sorry love sound of the story from GW1 back onto Rift I find it Great the public Grouping and PVP system when events happen that they do a lot with 1.2 showing on map where big event happening get way spend time with friends and strangers and pvp after the events great I find end game enjoyable but keep speeding up dungeon times and making it easier and need release new raid tier now but there's still plenty to do and the amount daily quest and arena PvP events will keep you from stopping and feeling like nothing to do.
