K really new to modding, but hey how hard can it be??? A few questions then.... 1. Where can I buy plexiglass sheets from? (Pref somwhere local - Merseyside) 2. Name a decent Mobo, with a lot of IDE slots (Pref in sideward position). I have an idea for the lightpaths from Tron (as they would look excellent), but is there anyway to make the paths move??? I have 2 ideas. 1 being the Tron architecture, and the other being like that 'Gibson' looked like in the (abismal) film Hackers. Gotta admit it did look sweet. Anyway on MSN and Yahoo all day (god I love my job), if you wanna talk I'm on there. Cheers KelticFox
Hey, Not flaming but this is in the wrong place bud, I know you're new so it's fair enough, but this'll probably get moved to Modding in the next few minutes. AH
best to for plexi shops... there is a whole thread around here that will tell you of some places from where to buy materials... also for the "tron" light effects the bast thing i would do i make up a big LED chaser circuit.. that might give you a good effect.. as with the mobo... im not 100% sure on this.. but i dont think u will get a mobo with a lot of IDE ports... mine has 4.. 2 for normal stuff and 2 for raid... but you can buy IDE controllers that attach to your PCI ports and will allow you to add more HDD's and optical's
I agree with springs on the IDE. I personally use an Abit IC7-g, which has 2 sideways IDE connectors (as you want) and 4 sata connections. The mobo also comes with a converter to use an IDE device on a sata slot, which can be very handy and you can buy more of them (allowing up to 6 IDE drives with no extra cards involved). Hope that helps! By the way, welcome to the forums and to modding in general!
Verrrrrrrrrrry Nice MoBo, would even prob buy it. However 1 prob, its a Pentium I've always been a fan of AMD, they seem more stable to me (I think its the architecture). Is there a AMD Mobo with these specs or am I going to have to convert Cheers
Most mobo's have 4 ide ide slots nowadays, so you can use an amd one, You could do with being more helpful on the useage side though. Athlon xp or A64, socket a/754/939?
do you know Taskers in Liverpool? I saw some massive sheets there, they _might_ be able to cut one of them down for you.
u can get EL wire kits that have a chaser effect i remember seeing them on a el wire specialist site you'd have to work out the power supply tho as none of the kits were 12v inverters all battery powered or wall socket. as im at work and my mouse just died im not gonna bother looking now
When it comes to 939 mobos you can find the new nForce4 boards with 6/8 SATA ports, I'd say if you're going to build a new system SATA hard drives is the way to go.
Cheers for Taskers...... didnt know they did them. where about in Liverpool are you??? Could do with some advice (poss) over coffee (I'll pay).
The pentium/amd battle will forever rage on, I'm afraid. I like the amd64 FXs, but see no reason to cough up the money yet...the benefit doesn't outweigh the price (particularly because I'd want a dual). There isn't a stability difference that I'm aware of, though...both systems are pretty solid.
I'm not saying that the Pentium/AMD war is based on anything good, just people tend to towards one camp or other. Its like NVidia and ATI, I personally like NVidia. But everyone has theire own preference.
Very true. Personally, I prefer NVidia, and I would LIKE to prefer pentium. I think for the chips that are around my price ranges (2.6-3.0g), I'd prefer intel and the 875 chipset. If money were no object, though, it'd be dual 64FX55s... Anyways, we now return you to your original thread, already in progress..
No Worries, though I think there must be somewhere better (i.e. somewhere which can do smaller pieces). I've only been here 4 years (have stayed after getting my degree at UoL). I had a look at your birthday and you're about a month older than me, and I was trying to work out what you're up to at the moment. I'm in Wavertree, how about you?
Well Im Orrell Park (By Aintree - Its the posh area (supposedly)) I only moved here about 4 years ago to. Originally from the Isle of Man (yes I have a 3rd leg, and the lasses love it ), but moved here, became computer technician at a cybercafe in Bold Street in town, then joined army for 3 and half years, had final year posted in Liverpool, and decided to stay. What you study at Uni??? I went to Reading Uni, and studied Robotics & AI (I thought it would be interesting to do lol)
Unsurprisingly, I studied Computer Science (though the actualy course title was 'Computer Information Systems') @ UoL. Reading Uni was my local uni when I lived with my parents! (Am originally from a village called Shiplake, between Reading and Henley. What are you doing now then?
