quick question, anyone know where to buy one from that is pretty easy to solder wires onto?

Am I best to canibilise a wall socket?

Never used a solder version, but the push on style are easy enough to use. The wires are laid in a channel and then pressed in with a tool (can't remember the actual name). You can also find tool-less version that use a cap to press the wires.

Cannibalise a wall socket, just rip the connecters off and there are solder points underneath.

Do you have all the right magnetics? If not, try and get a MagJack one, apparently they're pretty good. Alternatively just look here for a normal connector.

Though if it's not PCB mounting and you don't need the magnetics, a wall socket might be cheapest.

I kinda doubt he's building his own network adapter.

Unless you are, you don't want one with integrated transformers ("Magnetics").
