    Hi ppl,
I need to buy 4 or 5 rotary switches for my light baybus(5 1/2 inch bay) so i can turn on/off 4 CC's and a el string invertor-

i presume it needs to take 12v as i am goin to wire it up into the 12v red power line?---is this feasable?--and can you get them with an LED on/off too---hmmmmm saying that u would know if the cc was on or not lol!

any RS or mappers codes would b great as i am fick--i have to order the knobs from RS so they match my fanbus.....

any help would be greatly appreciated............ta in advance:)

I am not really sure what you are asking, it is early here. But remember that the 12v lead is the yellow wire, red is 5.

hehe well reminded-----doh1--it has been a hard days slog 2day:)

i want to be able to mount 4 or 5 rotary switches on the front of a 5 1/2 inch bay to turn off/on my cc's and el string invertor--i was going to splice the rotary knob into the 12v line---and lead all the wires upto the lightbus(?!!)

just wanted to know what part codes as an example i would need to buy--looked at their online stores and it just confused meh--- :0

    Maplins codes...

Any of them will do :)

all u need to do is cut the 12V wire (yellow one) and insert the switch in there :)

take a bit off the end with ya dremel, there are no wires in there.... (mine still work anyway ;) )

diameter is approx 6mm, there is just enuff room for the knob to go over the end of it :)

gunna resurrect this thread---I ordered the switches--the same ones u got Big--

    questions i have are--
you got 2 way or 3 way ones--mappers ordered the 3 way ones for me-spose i can still us the 3 way ones?---

have they got the ability to turn an led on when u turn the switch on--ie i want a row of bluu leds to indicate which ones are on/off-can these switches handle that?-

which pins did u solder too as there are like 15 on the bottom!lol--sa wthe centre ones -- but what about all the ones around the outside--

I can still buy the switches as they are sittin in mappers store cupboard:/--just wanted to b doubly sure tho'

thx for ya help in advance(again!) :)

should be able to wire them in series on the output line from the switch, so that when the switch completes the circuit (turned on), the LED glows :)

As for the rotary switches.... you have three poles for each channel in the centre (that is the case on the switches I have)

You have 3 poles and 4 ways which the switch can be.... so, if you are just turning on the one cathode with the switch... use A and 1 to connect to the 12V line and then your switch will go from off to on at the first click :)

For more than one cathode off one switch, turned on at the same time, use B and 1 and if u want one to turn on when another one is off... use A and 2

cheers dude!--i take it an resistor is going to be needed for the led in parallell across the two lines?---as it will b the 12v line-

yep.... I almost forgot that bit!

Well ok, I did forget about the voltage when considering the LED! ;)

In that case, u need to run the LED in parallel, so that the cathode doesnt suffer from the drop in voltage.... something like this should work....

how do i go about workin out the res value --it is just gunna b ya standard bright bloo led?--or can i use an approx val res?(guess at the value!)--any ideas any1?-ie what 0hmage lol!--

i have a multimeter but would like to do it the easy way:)
