I like D-Link myself. We have one hear at work. Sitting on top of my monitor as well. But I also like NetGear. hmmmm... one of those would be good. As long as you get one that can specifically allow certain computers with a given mac address. That way you can prevent them wardrivers from stealin your internet ;)

Ive had a Dlink and a Linksys router both as well as my current router. I did a flash of the firmware when I first got it and its been up ever since without any restarts, lockups etc. You would never believe its a Microsoft product would ya.

Microsoft Wireless Router - dont remeber the model number but its a cheapy 802.11b model. The router with the card for my lappy was in kit form from OfficeMax and ran about $135ish dollars. Literally took me 30 mins at most to get the whole thing running. Works like a charm.

I have netgear Wireless shiz (their 4-port AP + 2x 802.11g pci cards) and they work great. Wouldn't/didn't go dlink becuase my ADSL router/modem kept crashing (which is why I went with a AP that included a router - put the dlink into bridge mode and havn't looked back :) )

I've got a Netgear DG834 DSL modem + router + 4 port 10/100 switch. It's very good at being a basic DSL router, but it's rather limited if you want to do anything non-standard with it.

For example, I found out the hard way that it's inbuilt DNS server doesn't handle DNS queries for anything other than A records. This is fine for surfing the net, but if you want to run your own mail server behind the NetGear, it can't use the NetGear as the DNS server. There's no way to specify any options in the DHCP scope, so if you wanted to specify different DNS servers, or a WINS server, you'd be out of luck.

For the standard home user, it's adequate, and the -G model comes with wireless for not a lot extra, which is nice. For the power user: use a Linux box with a DSL modem, it'll give you the added power and flexibility.

Can't go wrong with any brand nowadays, they all can do the job. Unless you need some exotic feature or absolute total control. Netgear and Linksys being in the more expensive regions normally.

i've always went with Linksys and had no problems with it at all, currently got a wireless router and a wirless PCMICA (what ever combination of letters it is) card and none have ever not worked, even though i oce stood on the card n it went 'crack'.

Though i did choose Linksys because its a division of Cisco and they are the dogs dangley!!!

I have a D-link wireless set up and haven't had any problems with it. But like said earlier most brands will do the job perfectly fine.

I used to have a linksys... it started randomly cutting out, dropping the LAN (though it would stay connected to the cable modem)... I finally got tired of it, started up update the firmware... and it dropped the LAN while it was uploading... = dead router...

My friend's linksys did the *exact* same thing...

We've both switched to d-link and neither of us have had a problem...

    Haven't tried the netgear though...

That's why I go the Solwise because if that ever happens, I still have the RS232 as backup. :)

ive had em' all, wrote reviews on thebroken before it went down, and IMHO, dlink is to unoffical, linksys has poor products but great tech, and netgear is best all around. For laptop cards though, definately go with Orinocco.
