This is the initial set up of a WRT54G Linksys Wireless Router.

    Here goes:

I cannot comunicate witht the router with two PCs both running XP with two different network cards. Both cards according to Linksys, are compatable. I have no problems at all accessing the internet with both computers. I have switched ports also.

However with my portable HP zx5000, there is no problem at all accessing the router for initial set up.

I cannot initialize with my desktop using the wizard or manually. I have all the virus and firewall software disabled, I have sequenced the powering up of the cable modem, Linksys and PC. I have even entered a static IP, but cannot ping the router. All I get is timed out.

I have run a winsock fix program to no avail. I am really stumped on this one and so is Linksys.

If there is anyone out there that can help, I would be grateful.

    Thanks

What IP are you trying to use to access your router?

192.168.1.1 its the router's ip address. I can access it with the notebook using a wired connection but not the desktop. I have tried a static connection and it still failed with two desktops with two different LAN cards.

I can however acccess the internet thru the cable modem with both LAN cards, so its probably not the cards and not the router.

Some software glitch I cannot find or am ignorant of.
