    Hello all,

I have a question about connecting a router to another, is it possible to get a connection via the antenna only i.e without physically connecting both-the idea is whether one could detect a wireless signal from the other.

The idea might seem strange, please be patient caue I admit I am not a PC or network specialist.

    The main idea:
A router on the 1st floor of the house is providing an internet signal.
I have a second router USB Robotics in a room in the 2nd floor, and the idea is whether I could get an internt connection "via this 2nd router, then thru a cable to my desktop PC in which I have an Ethernet PCI-card ?"
    Is this possible?

Note: I want to keep away from USB 2.0 WLAN stick,
    if the above works.

Thanks a lot for your help.

To my knowledge, no. This sounds impossible. You'd be better off substituting the second router for a wireless bridge. This basically converts wireless signal back into wired.

EDIT: for some reason, if you did want the router for its NAT/Firewall abilities, you should do the following:

[1st floor router] <---(wireless)---> [bridge] <---(wire)---> [2nd flr router WAN port] <---(wire)---> [your pc]

This would only work if your router on the second floor supports client mode (AKA:Wireless Bridge)

My Linksys supports client mode, but I've not managed to work out how to get it to work while WPA-PSK is enabled on the main router. It worked without encryption enabled but obviously that's not acceptable.

edit: It works with v23 of DD-WRT with WPA-PSK.
