    the ports are probably blocked.

I am sure another member on here will fill you in on what to do.

Else try and google to find the port numbers used for IM programs, and go into your settings ;)

Used by MSN Messenger, Microsoft's IM client, to send and receive messages.

    5190:
Used by AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), America Online's IM client, to send and receive messages.

    5050:
Used by Yahoo! Instant Messenger, Yahoo!'s IM client, to send and receive messages.

    5222, 5269:
Jabber is an open-source IM protocol. It is not as widely used as other instant messaging protocols, although it was recently adopted by Google for their IM service, Google Talk, to send and receive messages.

    5223:
    Jabber over an encrypted connection.

    6665-6669:
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is similar to instant messaging except that it is designed to be used, simulatenously, by many participants in “chat rooms”.

    994:
    IRC over an encypted connection.

The default addy for routers is 192.168.0.1

enter it in your browser and it should pull up a configuration page for your hardware. from there you should be able to edit port blocking

Mind telling us what the problem was, perhaps for use of other people who have this problem. - In fact there's already another recent thread with exactly the same problem as you!

also, only use \\ before the computer name, then just \ following. It might have been a typo, but try

    \\server1\ben
