    This is probably AMD trying to beat Nvidia to market with 28nm, which from what I've heard Nvidia will most likely win with the the 6xxm line.

    Not sure if you're already factoring this in or not, but be aware that the 7970 will be the card which fits in the price/performance bracket that the 5870 filled.

    Fingers crossed for Sapphire releasing a 7970 Vapor-X. Powerful card with a cool and quiet HSF? Yes sir, I like it.

    I'd be happy if they could find someone who can actually create drivers correctly.

    wonder how much a 7970 will sell for new.. interested in the pyrit numbers- could always sell off the 6970 if it's something worthwhile.. or run them both :D that would be sick... and expensive

    Huh...that's exactly why I dumped the first AMD card I'd ever bought and went back to Nvidia...I mean the exact same problem. MSI was fairly useless (although nice) in support, so I went home again - Nvidia GPU on an ASUS card. I never should have strayed...

    For AMD's sake, I hope they get them out the door and that they're good - I don't think I've ever seen a company lose money quarter after quarter like AMD and not go belly-up.

    So, any chance AMD's GPU engineers can teach their CPU engineers how to not suck? :p

    speculated on wikipedia:
    7970 ( top of line single gpu card ) will have
    2048:128:64 @1000mhz
    compared with 6970
    1536:96:32 @ 880

    (shaders:textures:renders)
    33% on shaders 13% on speed.

    If correct I would guess 30 - 40% speed boost from 6970 to 7970. I doubt there will be a real choice of cards till march though. Damn bitcoin miners will snap these up for comparative power efficiency.

    Well let's wait and see. The only reason I'm looking forward to this is that the current hw might get cheaper.

    I'm really looking forward to these new ones. Regardless of brand (nvidia/amd)

    Hoping for some nicely lowered power consumption

    Think I'll hold off on the 4870x2 upgrade and see what December brings. :)

    It may be clean to say - they just want more money unless my hunch is incorrect; in terms of "Next generation" there is no reason to buy unless there is a good reason to do so - likewise if Direct X 12 comes out... bcause frankly my 6970 is doing more than enough...

    and what the above guy said - if even the slightest reason to buy the cards would be apt, I desire these too:

    Better Performance;
    Lower Power Usage;
    Lower Temperatures;
    Lower Noise Level's;
    Lower Cost's.

    Aye, the die shrink cards are due Q1 and the new architecture later on in the year. At the mo it's the mobile version isn't it? Rumours out the mobile version is now appearing in a HP and an Asus lappy.

    Was the 6th a date given by AMD? I thought the main news was going to be at CES?

    Thanks for the info. The 6th was mentioned either earlier in this thread or on one of the links within this.

    The reason i'm asking is because I currently have a 4890 on a 1680x1050 and it doesn't cut it for bf3. I need a new card for xmas and have a budget of £170. Any ideas could you pm me i'm thinking 560ti but i don't know if the higher core version is worth the extra cash?

    Also, i'm looking to start a new build in jan so was waiting before ordering my parts as the prices will drop for the older cards.
