I'd like one with a Heatkiller waterblock on it.

And i'd like that to come out straight from a board-partner with warranty.

    But hey, wishful thinking.

    (Imagines a 4890x2 @ 1200mhz core clock and 1200mhz mem)

a card drawing 400 watts. two of them in crossfire: 800 watts. a nice mobo: 100watts a fun cpu: 120watts a few hard disks, bells and wissles: 80watts. 1100watts total. hefty system.
can't they come up with some supah performance low power design, more or less like core2 was for the PentiumIV?

Triple slot cooler anyone? Especially if the core is going to be running at 1GHz!

    No.
I'd rather go for dual cards if i was in for a setup like that.
Unless of course, the fantastic "link" between the two GPU's was finally solved, and they had unified memory between both cores...but thats probably for DX11 cards....

Well, they've done the HD4870X2. It's only a small step from there to an HD4890X2.

Oh YES!!! I bought the ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 the day it was available and I havent seen a card (or cards) that could touch it, this might make me put it on ebay and get this new Monster.
Good thing I already have a 1300 watt PSU!!

Yikes, where are those numbers coming from? Bit-Tech's own numbers show an ENTIRE SYSTEM equipped with a single 4890 drawing less power at the wall than you're claiming for a single card.

I would think we wont see any 4890x2's until the die shrink, would shave off some watts.

I don't really think it's possible on either design (PCB sandwich or two GPUs on one PCB).
    Too hot, too hungry.
Doubt they'd make enough money off of a move like this (whoever DOES it, that is).

nonsense; rather invest the efforts in the new 40nm generation.
Ati was saying that it was "on track" and that it should make a debut in summer 2009. Summer is close and everything is quiet; rumors are floating that Nvidia (which was behind) will even catch up to Ati.
