I'm setting up an intranet for my work, and we have limited funding as far as hardware goes, and I was thinking of setting up a Server 2003 Virtual Machine, so as we got more money I could move the VM to the new hardware without reinstalling everything. (Plus it makes imaging super quick)

Are there any reasons I would not want to do this?

(I haven't noticed a huge difference when running XP Pro in a VM, so I'm hoping Server 2003 wouldn't be much different since I'm only using it to host a website.)

A friend of mine did some research for his final project (Master)... One of them was running W2k3 in a VM... I'll ask him...

On a side note, what VM you using?

This depends mostly on your host machines spec and it's operating system, the main thing to consider is you'll need enough ram to run both the client VM and the host servers OS's

As it happends I'm in the process of doing something very similar with a old dell power edge I aquired a while back. Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz should give me a sizeable upgrade on the 1.8Ghz Athlon I;m currently running... not sure how much RAM I've got at the moment

Edit... the Dell's got 1Gb of RAM which is double the old server so again I shouldn't have a problem
