    Hey guys,

I was wondering. Do rear wheel drive cars that race on the track experience understeer? Just in general tuned or stock doesn't matter.

Such things as tyre pressure, suspension, tyre width can all cause a rwd to understeer, so yes they can.
Even driving into a corner too fast can cause it understeer.
Accelerating out of the corner would normally cause oversteer

great thanks for the response. I always wondered that because I read that FF cars have the most understeer so I thought it would be the opposite with FR cars. I guess its a just a universal bottleneck.

    Cheers!

FR are less likely to suffer from it because of better weight distribution.

Yeah, what I'm saying though is oversteer is much more likly with a RWD car, but it doesn't eliminate understeer.

You've never driven a Ford Capri have you?

It seems impossible to get enough steering lock on them to make the slightest of turns....

I have driven front-wheel-drive cars that oversteer easily if you take your foot off the accelerator suddenly, because of the change in weight distribution. Just depends on the way the suspension etc is set up.

Yeah, the wheels on a Ford Capri are scarily similar to those on the BMX I had as a kid in terms of width (and traction).

Yeah i learnt this at an early (ish) age racing a front wheel drive VW Polo

......i followed this guy round a massive round-a-bout in Birmingham that i'd never been round in my life (no excuse) and saw his rear offside wheel about 6 inches off the ground all the way round and thought heehehe here's my chance as my at the time UR Quattro seemed to be sticking quite well..........pulled out to try and overtake and i felt mine give a bit so i lifted off the gas and before i knew i was facing the wrong way round an a round-a-bout with a young girl in a Merc skid to a stop just before hitting me full on.

That was embarrassing enough having to look this girl in the eye but to have the VW Polo come fleeing round for a second time (still with his back wheel off the ground) while i was still trying to a 7 point turn was just mud in the eye so to speak hehehee

    Great old days :D
