    Hi,

I'm looking at a nearly complete new build.
My current PC is over 6 years old, and while it's running fine, I want to get rid of the big tower sitting under my desk.

I'm really liking the look of the SilverStone RVZ02B, and I'm leaning towards the Ryzen 5 2400G APU as I'm not going to be doing any type of hardcore gaming. I'm coping perfectly well on the Intel i3 inbuilt graphics at the moment. I'm also not interested in overclocking.

Budget: Around £500-600. I'd rather spend a bit more now for the build to last longer.
Main uses of intended build: General use - internet, email, occasional home video editing, small amount of old RPG gaming (mostly NWN2).
Parts required: CPU, Mobo, RAM, PSU, SSD, Case, Cooler. I have a retail Win10 key I can reuse.
Previous build information (list details of parts):
    CPU: Core i3 3225
    Mobo: GA-B75M-D3H
    RAM: 2x4Gb DDR3 @665Mhz, Corsair I think.
    SSD: M4-CT256M4SSD2
    HDD:SAMSUNG SP2504C
    PSU: 300W BeQuiet BN103 L7 Pure Power
    Cooler. Stock, I think.
    Case: CoolerMaster Elite 335
    Monitor resolution: 1920x1080 and 1920x1200
Storage requirements: Probably get away with 500Gb SSD and no HDD. We have a NAS for media storage.Would like the option to add a HDD if required.
    Will you be overclocking: no
Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): HDMI and/or DisplayPort, to output to both monitors.
Extra information about desired system: To run quietly most of the time, and last at least 5 years with none to minimal upgrades.
I am also running my work laptop connected to the same monitors.
The Dell U2412M is connected to my desktop via DVI and to my laptop via DisplayPort. There is no HDMI port, so I need some way of connecting the new build to it, while still connecting to the laptop via DisplayPort as that doesn't have DVI ports either.
The Iiyama PLE2483H is connected to both PCs via HDMI using a HDMI (powered) switch, and I'm happy to keep using this as it's only got 1 HDMI port (plus VGA/DVI).

I've been looking around, and I've come up with this so far
    https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/X9FmD2

I'm unsure on the memory. I've tried checking the QVL's for the mobo and CPU, but can't find any 8Gb sticks without huge heatspreaders. I need standard/low profile height RAM for this SFF build.
I'm also prepared to send to AMD for their 'Boot Kit' if necessary to upgrade the mobo BIOS.

Have I made any mistakes, or is there anything else you think would be better?

    Thanks

You won't run into any issues with tall RAM and the L9a, by the way. It doesn't overhang the DIMMs at all. I would get memory as fast as you can within a reasonable budget. I see that you've gone for 3000, which is a great happy-medium for the money.

You've picked a pretty solid bunch of hardware. I can't find any fault with it. The only thing I'd change is the case, but that's personal preference talking.

I'd go for the ML08, purely for personal preference reasons... [iirc interally it's the same case as the RVZ02]... or possibly the RVZ01 [again personal preference plus iirc that version takes regular ATX PSUs].

If you stick with the Silverstone PSU, it may be worth splashing out the £20 for the short cable kit for it.

Also i'd probably gor for the 2.5" version of the MX500, it's not as neat as the m.2 version, but it's a smidge cheaper and leaves the M.2 free for a nvme drive at a later date if you so choose.

Finally i'd probably got for Corsair or Crucial RAM, part personal preference, partly i know i can probably reliably get my hands on a matching second stick down the line if i need to.

That’s the case I was thinking of too, because that’s what I have under my tele and it is a gorgeous looking thing. It’s sleek and just looks so much better than most cases for that price range; not to mention it is of decent quality too.

I wouldn’t worry too much about going to NVMe in this instance. A regular SATA SSD would be just fine. It’s not the ultimate performance machine, lets be real.

True but i was thinking in terms of easy slot-in upgrades to perk it up a few years down the line if needed... plus being sata it really doesn't matter whether you get the m.2 model vs the 2.5" model of MX500 so personally i'd opt for the cheaper option, even if it meant faffing on with a couple of cables.

    Thanks for the advice, guys.

I had a look at the ML08 case, and just prefer the look of the RVZ02, though I like the one with the black windows rather than the white. I'm not planning on any fancy LED light shows ;)

I've had good experiences with Crucial RAM in the past, so will probably go with those. Can anyone point me at a 1x8Gb stick that has a good chance of working with the Ryzen, please? If I don't need to worry about heatspreaders, that expands my options a bit.

If you don't think it's worth getting a M.2 SSD at this point in time, then I might just stick with my current SSD and HDD and save a few bob, and upgrade to a NVMe M.2 somewhere down the line. Is Win 10 likely to fall over if I just plug the SSD into a new motherboard? If I don't have to reinstall everything, that would be a bonus!
And I will look for the short cable kit, thanks.

You can get any one you like with tall spreaders. The L9a won’t interfere. Though I have to question why you wouldn’t just use the stock cooler. It’s surprisingly good. :)

It is highly recommended that you reinstall when changing so drastically. I hate even changing boards, never mind entire platforms.

I've not had experience with the AMD stock coolers, and I wanted a quiet cooler, which stock ones usually aren't. I also don't want to have to install a new cooler later on if the stock one is too noisy for me. I don't mind doing SSD/RAM changes, but a cooler install is a bit more difficult to find time to do. I need a decent block of time uninterrupted by young children, which is tricky to find!

Yeah, I thought that was probably the case, but was hoping Win 10 might allow it! Oh, well.

That’s fair enough, sir. You’ll be fine with the L9a. It could handle a 3.7 GHz all core clock speed on my R7 1700 under full load which should let you use it in peace with any APU, especially given that you’re not overclocking.
