I'm thinking I might do a playthrough. I wish someone would implement the weapon/armour upgrade system from Clear Sky into SoC. Then it'd probably be the best game ever.
Aye, the kit upgrades were good. If/when I have more time, this is the first thing I'll play. Should tide me through until Fallout 4.
They do have a upgrade system, though it isn't working properly yet (well, not for me) they are gonna patch it in a few days Its worth getting as its a free standalone, nothing required to play it
Yeah, I definitely recommend you guys to give it a try. Just a few tips, when you run the installer, run it as Administrator and also change the default install directory (if you don't, none of the game saves will work). Also, the upgrade/repair system only lets me repair at the moment, but like I said, they are working on a patch. Final thing, it doesn't run great, I mean, I know im only using a 920 @4Ghz and a 780 @1.3Ghz with 12GB ram, but at 1080p with everything maxed out, I get anything from 20-60FPS. I'm guessing there is gonna be a patch for that as well. PeteJ, you should be fine with that epic rig
Yes The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is and always has been my favourite series of games, so I may be a bit biased. But seeing as there will be no further S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games from the original team, this is as close as we are gonna get to something very similar which is officially supported. It plays out very similar to the original Shadow of Chernobyl, so far (4 hours in), but it is also subtly/quite different in terms of story, characters, dialogue and locations. I urge anyone who has played and enjoyed the STALKER series to give this a go, you have nothing to loose, after all, it is free.
Looking at some figures I've seen, I think any rig is going to choke when trying to play it at 4k. Keep us posted on any patching progress for it!
Patch has been released!!! Haven't tested it yet, but hopefully it should now make the game playable, I was getting constant crashes (as well as countless others) Yeah, its really hard to run maxed out, for such an old engine. Also, the AA & AF in game doesn't work, so you need to force it using the graphics card drivers. Same, STALKER is such a great series no probs
I've installed it (along with the patch) and played the first couple of minutes. I like the new intro! Upsides are that it looks excellent and actually runs very nicely. Downside is that I can't force AA through the drivers for some reason. I'm not in the mood for a playthrough just yet, so I'm holding off.
There was a new patch released today as well. Not sure what it does. What FPS are you getting and at what res? I seem to get between 50-60, but sometimes its between 20-30. Yeah, when I force AA and AF via Nvidia drivers, I get weird white lines on the edges of my display, which get bigger if in relation to me the direction I move the mouse/speed of mouse movement. Really annoying so I went back to the game AA and AF.
