rofl, I hadn't even noticed there weren't save/apply buttons on the prefs, I just change them and close it and expect it to save.

Just had a play, I really dislike the font edge smoothing that everyone seems to see fit to put on everything these days as I find for me it looks too fuzzy, now that could be my eyesight but an option for "off" would be nice.

It's slower than Firefox or at least it gives that appearance as it waits for most of the site to download before rendering it like internet explorer used to do yonks ago.

Over all I'm not entirely impressed but then it could be like Itunes, rubbish on windows for the first few versions then a few years later they eventually get it right :p

You can turn it off or change the levels in the preferences I've discovered. :)

it's just nice for us mac people to be able to render the mac web page properly every time (anyone else notice the new .mac login page doesn't render correctly in firefox?)

From what i've found using it...

    1) Focus is not returned to the viewport after the page has loaded
    2) No way to disable font smoothing (very ****ing annoying)

Oh and this deseves a repost from Ajaxian's comments...

I am missing something, Times is the default on every browser.

Oh no, the keyboard shortcuts are different.

This person obviously should stick with the browser they are used to.

Mozilla renders pages better than any browser. .Mac is badly coded.

    Mine was 'serif'
If it's coded the same why would FF have a problem with it?

On my taste I find Safari Interface too gray, plane and dull... maybe some color buttons might help.

I have a feeling is that Safari will come (forced) with iTunes and Quicktime. So now you will have 3 applications that you are forced to have installed.

Nah it won't, you dont have to download quicktime to install itunes, and you dont have to download itunes to install quicktime.

Although, I think you *might* need quicktime for itunes as itunes uses the AAC codec which you get with quicktime.

I don't really carea bout itunes or quicktimes, I just want iChat.

Rights, I know this, but the links are kinda hidden... you have to dig a bit to find it.
For average users they see no choice in installing quicktime with iTunes.

Well to be honest this is just going to be marmite for the time being, does no one else remember what FF was like when it was still in beta... it was still a resource hog, clunky, flakey rendering, fugly UI...

The only reason everyone is gonna have more of a whine about Safari for windows is simply the fact of choice. You have a choice as to what browser(s) you wish to use, so if you're used to IE/FF/Mozila/Oprah/whatever you're going to be rather set in your ways. Whereas people are saying oh iTunes works fine in windows, I can resize that from anywhere etc etc.. Yeah. Fine. How many versions has there been, how many times has it been taken back to Cupertino and redone... at least 70 or so times to my count.. Plus you also have to consider the fact that there's little choice if you want to use an iPod, you've already shelled out £200 or so on the thing, may as well use the software that was made for it. Otherwise you may as well saved yourself a few pennies and gotten some creative/archos/etc device and used whatever you wanted.

I'm not gonna be all snooty apple fanboy here but, tbh, if it sucks, what really did you expect from a beta especially one that's making the transition from a totally different system basis.

And for my thoughts on why apple has decided to release this is probably to do more with their transition to Intel processors, you think, you've already had to recompile the thing for intel, you may as well tweak the UI a bit and pump out a windows version. Also it could be a soft way into coercing people to make the switch to MacOS.

And finally.. putting my fanboy hat back on... Just look at IE for MacOS.. dear god what a pile of steaming sh.......

I have a feeling the iPhone is something to do with the release of Safari for windows.

I think you have pretty much hit the nail on the head Lorquis, and you may have a point there Jamie would make sense to do that as even Jobs would have a hard time convincing
people he wanted to make serious inroads to the browser market otherwise.
