i really want to puch my cpu a bit further and hit 2.4ghz to try and not let it bottleneck my gpu as much.
im thinking no more than 1.6v really? as thats the guide line ive read.

anyone got any in put on this?
im using a xp120 and 2000rpm fan and im touching 32c-34c at idle so im not really impressed with how cool this chip is running anymore. if i undo the modst overclock ive got right now it goes to 25-26c :(

Temperature isn't the only factor that affects the life of a CPU. 1.6V is the most I'd ever give any chip unless I wanted it to die pretty quickly.

I'd say no more then 1.55 myself, just in case your mobo overvolts, if you have some really decent air cooling and a multimetre then maybe 1.6, but myself, I'm getting the best air cooling, and almost certainly won't go above 1.55

If its a SD/Venice/Winny then probably 1.55-1.6 max for day to day running.
    For newcastle/claw 1.6-1.65 is fine.

If you're getting a poor overclock though and you need 1.6v to achieve the 2.25ghz OC shown in your sig, then its probably not worth running that much extra vcore for such a small gain...

i'd agree that 1.55-1.6 would be the max but i'm surprised that your temps raise that much I can get it to about 2.3-2.4 and the temps still stay around 30c and i'm on stock

but also it happens to be really cold right now

    cheers guys.

@highlander, its at stock volts for that overclock, i couldnt get it any higher than that without more volts unfortunately, but i did only have a quick play. might try again over the holidays when the bond movie starts :D

@payne, the pc is in quite a warm room in my place so its hard to keep myself warm and my pc cool lol.

so would running the cpu at ~1.6v have any bad effect on it? could it fail alot sooner etc? and is it safe on air cooling, as ive read that at 1.6 it really needs to be water?

If you can cool it (ie under 50-55 load) then it should be fine. It'll reduce the lifespan of the CPU, but any overclocking does that....

    ahh ok, cheers for that.
so is 50-55c the max temp id be looking at too then?
    any more is too far?

over 55ºC is too much imo when you're running 1.6v. I ran my 3200+ Winchester on 1.65v @ 52*c load for about 10months - no adverse effects at all.

Well, I'm still of the belief that 1.6 isn't safe with any of the recent AMD 64 bit CPUs. I've read of quite a few people whos memory controllers have been fubared, or whos chips have failed within 6 months of useage at said voltages, one or two and it could be co-incidences, but it seems to happen to a lot of people who run 1.6.

As for temps(an' I'm just regurgitating what I've read across the boards here) but on the recent models(venice, san diego) 55 is your serious max, advice I've read has said you don't go above that if you value your processor.
