I wonder how much work it'll take to make an DE razor at home.. DO IT, Nexxo!
Another convert here, I think
Been meaning to try these for ages as I'm sick of being gouged for fusion cartridges and using cheap disposables.
Recently picked up a Merkur 33C, Merkur Super platinum blades, Cyril R. Salter badger brush and Taylor of old bond street sandalwood cream.
First go today. Takes a bit longer, but much better results. Still a bit stubbly around the neck, but I'll get that over time I think. I'm fortunate to be blessed with skin that isn't that sensitive, so I don't see irritation being that much of an issue.
Seriously, why did these things go out of fashion?
Very clever marketing...
And because people are stupid.
(Awesome Max Headroom avatar is awesome)
Oh nice! It would be cool to see what you come up with if you do it.
So whats the razor of choice for £20-30?
I'm happy with my 1960's Gillet but I want to get one as a gift.

Well there is a few independents who are manufacturing razors at home but first you need a machine like that
Here a few high-end aftermarket handles.
Found someone doing a starter kit with the DE87 so went for that.
Also got 50 Permasharp blades for £15 inc which I thought was good value.
The DE87 is classy with it's ivory handle
Oh sorry it was the DE89 that came with it.
The handles are the easy part. I can knock those out on my humble mini-lathe. The heads would require a mill and a serious ninja level of skill.
I found this razor on a forum, this morning, it's made of Damascus steel from head to toe.
By David Newman
Ninja skill intensify!
Wow, that looks fantastic!
Looks like it's made from mokume gane rather than steel. Either way, it's all sorts of gorgeous
I admit it, I had to ask google about that mokume-gane stuff. Beautiful razor indeed but dry it after usage or rust will appears before long.
Sent from my 3GS!
no rust if it's brass/copper mokume. I'll dull down if aged properly but a slow formed copper oxide layer'll protect it nicely
Taylor Coconut, the scent is made of happiness
PS: Nevermind, I quoted a 2 years old comment mehhh.
Yesterday I shaved with a vintage Gillette Super Stainless and the experience was fabulous, I had the impression that there was no blade at all in the razor and yet the hairs melted away. I wish I had a stockpile of those : )
Considering buying this kit.. I already have my safety razor thanks to Swordsman..
I only want this kit right now.... My brother broke my first brush.. I had to buy a new one.. same brand and everything.. I'm not gonna blow another $10 for a replacement again so I'm gonna buy a better brush..
Now if Imgur will work for me for once... I could upload the shopping cart that I'm considering buying..
Lemme know if this doesn't work
