Cooler guys are having a sale on red CCFLs, I don't know for how long though. Linky They're $10 instead of $25. Just to let you know.
I would not buy thoes unless I wanted light to look orange. the tube on the outside is red. the cathode inside is white.. it is the cheap way of companies to make color kits. My friend has thoes and they are pure orange when glowing.
Or like the CC's I bought for my media PC they were PINK! Even when wrapped with Red window tint. If they can promise that they are true (Deep) red, I will buy them in an instant. http://www.zapwizard.com/MediaPC/Hardware/ColdCathodes.JPG
i emailed the same question, they gave me something about not having an image of the imstalled or powered up, but were really quick to ensure me that they were indeed red and not pink... no word on the orangeness though
Red CCFL's I work for coolerguys.com I can take a pic while I am at work tomorrow and post it in here for you guys who are interested. btw. long time reader first time poster =)
Ummm, ZapWizard? What is that you are showing us? Looks like a CD which is lit from behind with an LED, Would look really spiffy in a CD Drive with a window.. SnaRf
Ok I took a few pictures and tried to compare it to a standard red led. It looks a little orange but thats mostly the camera's effect, although the ccfl isn't complete red. http://www.nu11.org/ccfl.JPG
hmm... i need red lights for my next project. they look a little orange in that pic. :| anyone know how long the sale will go on? and Zap could you post pics when you get yours? Thanks
Here is the responce I got from their information staff The bulb looks a little orange but that could be the camera. It is more red than the one in randomnu11's pic.
I ordered some, for $10 who cares. If they are red, I'll put them in the mr. pib project... if they are orange, I have a Harley Davidson project in my head and they would work for that too so what the hay... thanks for the heads up what's bad about a deal like that is the shipping is almost as hurtful as the item you're buying.
Christopher, I didn't have the camera in the office yesterday, sorry. Quoting my emails now 1398342003 (David)? Cathodes are hard to take pictures of in digital. Try it some time. Anyway, if you want a more "red" color then these cathodes, you'll have to use LEDs only. And who do I mail around here to recover my old user name? hehe Here's the picture I sent along with David's email:
Man it is just sweet the power we have at bit-tech.net Direct answers from the retailer. ------------------------------------- Well as listed before I ordered them, and some more stuff too. They will probably not end up in my Media PC, unless they happen out to be the right color of Red. If not, I am sure they will end up in some project down the road.
bit-tech has a lot of pull in the modding area, almost anyone that actually mods knows about bit-tech. if you say your a regular at bit-tech they generally speed up their answers to you. I guess they figure we will say something on here that will hurt their business or something shrug. I just like that I get answers from retailers is all. tell me how these cathodes turn out for you guys.
They had the blue ones on sale last week so I got a second pair. Too bad I spent $25 on the first pair, though.
