on the way to work today I noticed one of those waterbottle cooler/heater/dispensers on the street near the garbage can. I was thinking of picking it up for the cooler and radiator components. I know preferred items are car parts/ac parts, but does anyone know anything about these devices and if they would be useful? I'd imagine it would contain at least a peltier device and radiator, but not sure if it would be a good choice for water cooling. Whattya think?
Could be worth a shot. Some of those watercoolers get the water pretty cold. If its free, might as well rip the thing apart and see what its got. Can always test it out on some older hardware, and you never know, it could end up being great!
yeah I thought so, so just went back to throw it in the car... someone's already picked it up! Still curious as to your thoughts for the next one that comes up. Oh yeah, on the plus side I found an old HP LCD that someone was tossing out... no ac adapter, but I'll see what I can do with it... sidepanel mod, here I come! (sorry, off topic)
I would have liked to see what's inside one of those hot/cold dispensers. I still haven't figured out how a thermos bottle knows to keep things warm or cold! Marvelous invention the thermos bottle. john
They have little trolls inside which work their magic John, I thought everyone knew that! BTW: patent
My guess is that they use a TEC, that way they can reverse the voltage and either get hot or cold water using the same device. That said TEC's aren't really a very efficient means of removing heat from a loop.
