Hello It appears that I've some leftover money and that I wish to spend it on some hardware, specifically on my first SSD for my rig. In the past I've bought a 60GB Corsair Force GT for my brother rig and according to him it performs admirably. That's pretty much my history on SSDs. However, me being such a fussy guy I've decided to stick to my rigs colour theme and go for either a grey, black or blue SSD. So specifically these two Samsung 840 Pro: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/128g...m-toggle-nand-read-530mb-s-write-390mb-s-97k- And the Corsair Neutron GTX: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120g...d-read-555mb-s-write-330mb-s-87000-iops-iops- I'm going to install Windows 7 64-bit (Maybe Windows 8 once it's matured a bit) and some large applications on it (e.g. Shogun 2: Total War, Adobe CS6 & Autodesk 3DS Max). I've read some reviews on them both and have concluded that their performance are parallel, if not close to each other. However, the one thing which I cannot distinguish between them is which one will last longer and retain the highest read/write speed. The amount of data I'll be transferring from one drive. to another will vary significantly (E.g. I'm now at Uni studying Electrical & Electronic Engineering I'm required to do a lot more 3D modelling design than what I've done in the past) So to put things basically the main features I'm looking for is performance, reliability and durability. P.S. Please unless it's a better model than these two, do not suggest another SSD. My decision of the SSD being 120-128GB is final; cannot be any bigger or smaller. Do not bring up the normal Samsung 840 or the Corsair Neutron or any sandforce-based SSDs. And finally, keep the thread clean aNP
If you are happy with paying the price premium of the 840 over the 830 for minimal real world difference then I would go for that. You get the extra 8gb plus reknowned reliability. Can I ask why you are so adament about not getting a 256gb model? Ususally tthese are faster than the 128gb models, you get double the storage (these thing fill up fast) and the 256gb 830 is only a few pounds more.
Unfortunately I'm about £30 short of the model you mentioned (This one amirite? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/256g...basic-kit-sata-iii-read-520mb-s-write-400mb-s) And even if I did got for a 256GB version I'd go for a premium build one for maximum performance
I know it's not a resolution per se, but I would want to wait at least 4 months before choosing either of them. Both of these SSDs are blazingly fast but they both are débuting new controllers: Samsung's MDX and the LAMD controller on the Neutron. For me, the three aspects of a component are price, performance and reliability. Both of these drives beat the Samsung 830 for performance, but the 830 is much better priced and has a proven track record. I would recommend a Samsung 830 256GB. They go for about £130 over at Amazon UK.
+1 I have a vertex 4 and its great but if I was to buy now, I would definitely go for the 830 as its at a bargain price
