I have a custom cut aluminum fan grill that I need to sand nice and polished to get rid of some inperfections and denting and to make it smooth for anodizing. How should I do it?

Wet sand with gradual increased grades?

Tape down the sandpaper on a flat surface and move the grill over the paper? Or use a sanding block block on the grill?

What about the parts that I can't get to with a sanding block, like the small inside parts that were custom cut?

Do it the first way, you'll get a much flatter and easier to polish surface.
All the inside (cut) edges are probably best done by hand.
Do them first...if you slip up and scuff the flat surface you can deal with it later...

when I used to do jewelry, we wet sanded with increasing grits by hand. You would fill a little tub with water and sand that way, Also make sure you rotate it 90 degrees when you switch to a higher grit, so you dont get grooves. That will take out all the scratches and dents
