Yes....that's the sort of thing I was thinking of. I think you'll need something a little more full of lines though to balance the dark plexi. Try grabbing a few different prints if they aren't too expensive and see which looks best.

 

so long as the paper is tight across the back of the window frame, i think it will look awesome. I like the idea of the painting on the paper too...that would be nice. Good work!

 

I think that you should sand the plexi so the guts won't be so easily visible.

Sanding should look good with clear plexi, the dark tinted stuff does not look so good sanded IMO.

 

Another thought occured to me. I got the impression you are at a design school or something similar. If you are around other artistic students, there is a decent chance that you could find a person that has some talent with Japanese calligraphy. You could have them do the panel, either as a whole or within each box. Just another brainstorm.

I'd go for tinted plexi, as someone said, paper would a hell for dusting and would look a bit strange with the front of the mod... but only plexi, putting leds on it would a bit too much, and a pity as well. Sometimes less is more ...

 

Nothing to do with the thread, but is it a nice hydraulic disc you can see in the reflection? a good ol' hayes by any chance?

I'm gonna guess that your shop is near the marinas... near Pacific Avenue... Alameda was my old stompin' grounds... I bought my favorite backsaw in a cool little wood supply store there that favored Japanese wood working styles ... many years ago...

Shouji door without paper isn't a shouji door. If you wan't to use paper, try translucent white plexy.

 

Use paper, a really white and translucent one; and those bamboo paintings would be nice.

 

The level and skill of the woodworking is great! I really am enjoying your ideas i just am not a big fan of the chinese looking doors!? other than that SWEET!
