Seriously good work here! The level of craftsmanship is way up there. Subscribed and looking forward to updates!
this kicks ass! and as said before, the level of craftsmanship really is absolutely fantastic! whar are you planning on finishing the case with? just a clear varnish/paint or stain?i think i mita missed it. fantastic mod anyway, looking forward to updates too!
thanks, if i did mention the finish before, i've changed it, so it doesn't really matter anyway. i'm going to try a new finish that sounds quite good. i'll take spar urathane, thinned with turpentine for the first coat, and apply it to the mahogany and actually sand it while its wet to fill the pours of the wood. I'll do this for a few more coats until i get up to around 600 grit, and by this time i should end up with a rich, protective finish that has some lustre but isn't too glossy. The lighter wood is not finished though, since traditionally, the japanese didn't finish any of their doors or what not, this actually makes less work for me too, so i don't really mind more to come soon
hey everyone, i've been steadily working on the case and i'm getting close to gluing the acrylic finally, so here's what i have: i mounted the back fan and the psu which were also painted and polished and everything. i also put the mobo there just to see how everything looks since i wanted the front to be really clean, i decided to put the buttons and switches on the inside, also since the doors slide really smoothly, it'd be nice to use them, so all u have to do is open the door to turn stuff on and off. here i mocked up the fan controller part of the switchboard which will attach to the drive bay. the on/off switch and the reset switch will go under the fan controller that's all for now, more soon i hope
wow!!! its just so damn perfect!! altho...on a side note, how are you gna ground the case?!! cases have to be grounded dont they? ask in the electronics forum, i think there was a post on this a while back, better to be safe than sorry!!
dont think so mate how come acrylic cases work? duh they dont the "grounding" is transmitted by the PSU's earth wire 12v generally doesnt need to be grounded *yes it does - but not in the case of pc COMPONENTS* they get their ground from the earth wire in the molex/atx plug/s
hey guys, sorry about that, i have been working on it, and i've acquired more hardware, i'm just on to the point where everything has to be perfect or else the case won't work, i should post what i have recently done hopefully by tonight, USA time that is.
hey everyone, i finally got around to resizing all the pics and everything so here is an update. the main hold up on the case was not having the right hole drilling tool and amazon.com was extremely slow and getting it to me, but it finally came: With this, i was able to drill the mobo tray holes and more holes on the back panel, and the switchboard, which i glued i also figured out how to mount the mobo to the tray since i didn't really like the regular standoffs and so came the moment i've been nervous about, gluing up the interior frame, but surprisingly it went quite well after that, the next thing to do was to cut the grooves in the floor to accept the acrylic i could have done this with a router but i went for the chisel method instead and with that done, i could finally fit the acrylic into the floor before gluing the interior frame to the front and back acrylic panels, i wanted to get a test fit to see if things were actually working, so i put it together and installed some of the hardware to see how things were fitting: the next step is to sand the back panel a bit more and get it ready to be glued, i also still need to make the hd cooler, and work on the lighting, but things are going pretty smoothly. oh, i also got a few more pieces of hardware the harddrive is a seagate barracuda 7800 w/ncq SATA 250gig, should be nice, anyway, that's all for now
is that an x800xl or just a regular x800? this is looking REALLY amazing, its sooo nice keep up the awesome work!
