hi all ive heard different stories about using 2 4890,s in crossfire, ive heard that its not worth the extra cash ill have to fork out for another 4890, what is the truth will 2 4890,s work as good as....say....a 4870x2 cheers guys take care
2 4890's in Crossfire will be more powerful that a single 4870 X2, but I don't think it will run as well as it should. I've had bad times running Crossfire and SLi due to driver support... I will never go back again.
cheers dorksterr ive never used sli or crossfire ever, ive only ever used single cards, cheers for that info matey take care
It is rumoured that a partner of ATI is considering a 4890X2. It'll be a 2Gb card and possibly powered by two 8pin connectors, drawing 375w at idle. If it comes off It'll take the crown of most powerful graphics card. But with the new series getting ever closer, it might just get shelved before it gets started.
we cant bloody keep up can we , we get the latest goodies, and before we know it the next gen of goodies is coming out take care
seems like i read a review recently that showed 2x4890's did well in maybe 2 games at high rez over a single 4890, but for the most part didnt scale well. also, the 4870 x2 seemed to be right there with it. not sure what drivers that review used. i'd wait, let the price drop further.
Hmmmmmmm...Possibly. They were considering 2Gbs to 4Gbs of GDDR5. The only crown taker then, would be the Asus Mars...
well looks at the new 2gb 4870 didn't see that much of a performace hike but maybe enough to take the crown will just have to wait and see
I checked out a couple reviews yesterday (looking for comparison between 2x 4890's and 1x 4870X2 + 1x 4870 in CrossfireX), and the 2x 4890's beat out the CrossfireX setup by a decent margin each time. As for the GTX 275 vs the 4890, they are neck and neck when running a single card. I'm having trouble finding a direct dual card comparison between Crossfire 4890 and SLI 275, though I have found reviews on Crossfire 4890 vs the GTX 295, and the 295 wins out every time. Based on another review, running 2x 275's in SLI actually perform BETTER than a single GTX 275, so putting all of that together, the GTX 275 in SLI should beat out the HD 4890 in Crossfire in pretty much every area. I personally think it's got something to due with the amount of time nVIdia has been perfecting its SLI setup. I've also looked up reviews on the higher memory version of the ATI 4870 (as well as the GTX 275), and the results are far from stunning. The majority of the results put the standard 4870 1GB ABOVE the 2GB model in all resolutions up through, and including 2560 x 1600 (30" Monitor Reso). There were only one or two games in the tests shown that had the 2GB model ahead, and even then it was by less than 10 FPS. The same holds true with the GTX 275.
