I am trying to install a Radeon HD 2900 Pro in a customer's computer but I cannot get any audio through the HDMI connector. When I install the card and the drivers the audio device is not even mentioned in Windows anywhere. I am sure it is not a hardware problem as I returned the card as an RMA and received a new card, which doesn't work either! I have tried it in his PC as well as mine and have been in contact with AMD/ATI tech support to no avail. Anyone else have this problem? Or has anyone got this card working? Thanks _C
I have the same card and I dint even know there was audio over HDMI After a quick test I have to say no sound for me ether. The audio driver dont show up anywhere and I dont know how to enable them. Sorry edit: After a lil search I found the audio driver on Ati`s homepage. Seems like they are not bundled with the rest of the drivers.
Well, I'm guessing you are using a DVI to HDMI convertor on the back of the card as all 2900Pros I've seen dont have a HDMI connector. (but i may be wrong) In which case you wont get any audio as DVI does not carry any audio output.
There is a special adapter bundled with it which uses extra pins on the DVI connector to carry an audio signal through to an HDMI output. I'm gonna try with a fresh install of XP to see if it is my existing graphics drivers conflicting with it. _C
Have you installed the Microsoft UAA HDMI Audio Class Driver and the ATI HDMI Audio Driver ? When installed it will show up in the Device Manager under "Sound, video and Game Controllers" as "ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio". To enable ATI HDMI Audio go to “Sounds and Audio devices” in the control panel and change the default setting to “ATI HD Audio rear output”.
Thank you so much Reverend_Jones! That worked right away. I owe you one big time! I don't know why ATI don't include it in the driver disk?? _C
