    Hi,

I am in the middle of building my PC and was wondering if you could help me on a few questions please?

    Q1:

The PSU came with a daisy chain SATA cable: I have one HDD and one dvd drive and originally used two separate SATA cables? But can I use1No daisy chain cable for both (performance issues?), I will have to position the HDD further up the caddy though? I am also using the 3gb/s leads onto the motherboard is this correct?

LG GH22 Super Multi DVD Rewriter 22x
    1TB Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda HDD

    I didn’t start the build until later on. All seemed to go well except for fitting the i/o panel and then finally the motherboard. I noticed later on, that some of the speaker jacks where not central in the I/O holes, resulting in the graphics card connection being very close to the next removable expansion plate. I will be sorting this out tomorrow;

    Q2:

One thing, the motherboard was quite difficult to line up exactly with the spacers and required some effort and a small bit of force to sort out – is the ok? I was worried on damaging the motherboard, is this normal to be quite difficult?

    Q3:

I was also expecting the post test to display “boot device has failed”, but it didn’t. The first ever boot displayed the bios and then said chassis interrupt, which I haven’t seen since. Now it shows the bios and then displays insert boot media I think (can’t remember exactly) is this a successful post?

Everything else seemed to go well, but very slowly! All fans are spinning with no horrible noises. The bios CPU monitor shows a CPU temp of 35 when the motherboard was being tested on its box and 28 when it’s in the case (no side panels and no case fans running).

Thank you, I’m off to bed now (knackered!)

For Q3 if you haven't plugged in any hdd nor any DVD drive it is a normal bios post.
For the Q2 witch way did you need to force, I am not sure to really understand what you mean
Q1 it's up to you, the daisy chain won't induce any change.

    1) Yes, you can put a hard drive and CD-ROM drive on the same power cable. If 3GB/s is the fastest port on the motherboard, then why not plug it into that?

    2) As long as you don't get any trouble codes and everything works, then what's the problem? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    3) Again, as long as you didn't get any trouble codes, chassis interrupt aside (which is probably just a chassis intrusion switch anyhow), then what's the problem? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Thanks,

There is a 6gb/s port on the motherboard, but i think my HDD and DVD are 3/gbs (not really 100% sure to be honest). I will use the single lead now but should i be plugging this into the 6gb/s port?

Tha problem with the motherboard is that after putting in the I/O pannnel and then placing the motherboard over the stand offs - the holes on the board did not line up with the board and required a little bit of force and pushing to get the thumb screws in. Later i realised as a result of this the rear holes on the board and GPU did not line throught with the I/ Pannel well. Thus the top edge of the HDMI port on the graphics card in paticular was exactly in line with the motherbaord tray chassis. Thus making it virtually impossible to fit a lead. So i was slightly worried that i had done something wrong with the motherboard? the I/O pannel came fitted with all the little lugs on the outside of the chassis. I am going to have another look this morning.

Sorry, i meant to ask this one last night as well - the case has 4 fans, 1 has a 3 pin lead and the others have extension cables plugged into the 3 pin with a larger 4 pin plug on the end. Am i supposed to plug these into the PSU. Or can i remove the extension cables and then plug all 4 fns into the motherboard?

I know it might be easy for you guys but some of the wirring makes me scratch my head and worry a bit!!

bear with me im new and its my first build.......

What case did u go for - thinking dodgey manufactured case to have to apply a lot of pressure!

I had to apply the tiniest amount of pressure fitting my mobo. But think that was due to the mobo back plate having extra padding.

Yes, the back plate had extra padding and i think this was adding to the problem. Just loosened off the motherboard screws and the holes dont line up with the stand off's by about 1-2mm. Not much but enough to make it difficult fitting!

I have taken the motherboard off, removed the I/O plate and then laid the motherboard over the stand offs - they line up perfectly, so it must be something to do with the I/O plate?

Its now been refitted with a bit of fiddling and it all seems to line up quite well on the I/O pannel and Graphics card rear port. 3 of the stand off holes didnt line up too well - the edge of the hole thread just about lined up with edge of the motherboard hole. The thumb screws didnt have a problem going in, so i hope and think its ok now,

    Cheers.

SATA ports are all backwards compatible, so you may as well just plug it in to the fastest one.

My bet is that the backplate is garbage. I have a very hard time believing that Lian Li would make a dodgy case. Just make sure all the screws are tightened so that you don't get a bad ground.

yes i think it was due to the I/O plate. I have installed Windows 7 and its almost complete now before the stress testing.

    About those SATA ports:

I tried using the 6gb/s leads and ports for the HDD and DVD but they were not found in the bios? So i have gone back to the 3gb/s leads and ports and everything seems fine. You mentioned i could use the faster speed potrs, but how do i get the bios to recognose my HDD and DVD if i use the 6gb/s connections. Also does this matter swapping over ports now that i have installed windows?

    Cheers

It could be that some of the PCI-e lanes share resources with the SATA 6GB/s ports. Depending on how you load up the slots, it could disable them. I wouldn't worry about it at this point if you already installed the operating system.
