What progress the world is making. We're all building walls to keep the neighbours out. Can't say I especially blame the Saudi's on this one though, I'd want a physical barrier protecting me from the mess that is Iraq were I next to it also.

There are various interesting ways in which you could read this. Perhaps it is not just about keeping assorted terrorists and criminals out of Saudi Arabia (which in itself would be a damning comment on just how "safe" Iraq is considered to be since its "liberation").

Perhaps it could also be seen in the light of apparent moves by US in setting up permanent bases in Iraq, and the tension that exists between Saudi Arabia and the US. Let's face it, the US has invaded Afghanistan, occupied Iraq, and is now gunning for Iran, all for not playing nice with US Middle Eastern policies. It also freely supplied bombs to Israel to use against Lebanon.

Perhaps the Saudis are just thinking ahead. Perhaps hey feel that they are going to be next on the list of unwelcome US attention. I mean, if you control them, you control OPEC, don't you? And as a consequence, pretty much the world.

A few years ago I would have dismissed this notion as crazy talk. Now I'm not so sure.
