Lo chaps i need to know the neame of the software that saves firefoxes settings...i forgotten what its called...also where does firefox keep the faveroits?? thanks guys!!
Bookmarks aka Favorites are in bookmarks.html in your profile folder, deep under Docs&Settings in XP. Easy way is to Search for it, you'll have at least 2 but one's just an empty template in Prog Files. Saving settings, there's an extension will save copies every time FF is closed, or a separate program to do it on demand. Personally they're on my list of stuff for the daily autobackup so I've forgot the names.
sweet! thanks chaps.. im just worried coz im gonna be reformatting soon and need everything backed up...and as firefox dosent save in the faverites area like IE did it is abit more complex to find it. Thanks again!
Just copy the full profile and you can also save any search engines you've added (in Program Files\...\Firefox\searchplugins by default). I save all C:\Docs&Setts before a reformat, you can always just copy odd files back to restore your customisations to various programs. DVD space is cheap.
The software solution is mozbackup which backs up Firefox and Thunderbird Bookmarks, Profiles, Extensions and suchlike.
For me, OneSeventeen, I would copy the following folders: C:\Documents and Settings\OneSeventeen\Application Data\Mozilla C:\Documents and Settings\OneSeventeen\Application Data\Thunderbird And after a fresh format and reinstall, I'd install Firefox and Thunderbird, then open them once, close them, then copy my saved version of the above folders over their new version. Now when I open firefox and thunderbird, they are exactly as they used to be. Another interesting fact, the other day I copied the Thunderbird folder from windows, then saved it as /home/oneseventeen/.mozilla-thunderbird in linux, then when I opened Thunderbird in linux I had all of my email settings, emails, and even autocompleting email addresses from my windows box! No conversions, just a folder name change!! (for people like me with 10 email addresses that I actively use, and a very picky personality on how my software should run, this saved me a good hour of reconfiguring.) Happy restoring!
