Since i have to install HL2 several times between each system and updating takes FOREVER, i was told that i could save steam updates for HL2 and CS:S onto disk, then apply them on reinstall? If so - can someone tell me HOW?

    Thanks.

Can't you right click the HL2 icon in steam and select "backup" and whap the whole lot onto a DVD? Something like that anyway.

that's been a bit hit and miss for me, worked twice, not worked twice, and it takes forever and a day, easier to just dump the whole steam dir to another backup place and copy over once reinstalling a basic steam installer on new setup

I've used the backup feature with good success. On the other hand, I've had much less success just copy/pasting everything. Of course, that's inevitably due to me installing to a wierd directory (ie, not the standard c:\program files\valve\etc) and I forget which level of folders it goes to lol.

So easier to copy and paste the whole steam dir to DVDRW then :) Cool thanks.
