Man that sounds pretty sick, even if he was a brat there is no excuse for that. Low lifes.
Hope she enjoys her prison time. Also hope the kid isn't too broken by the whole event.
Why should you care? You don't know him, do you?
I guess you're a Human Being after all.
LMAO, I'm sorry, but that has to be the best Nexxo Post ever.
As to the topic... just goes to show that you can't really trust anybody now a days, can you?
Why should I care? Emotion dear Nexxo! Just because I'm not against all crime doesn't mean I'm emotionless
Caring here doesn't cost me anything, doesn't require any effort. It'll be nice to see someone who's done something as pointless as that go to jail. Nice to know the system stops pointless malicious crime like that.
You say that you don't care if someone is shot, but fact is, obviously you do care if a child is beaten-- you have empathy. Like I said, no man is an island... Being a Human Being is quite pesky sometimes, isn't it?
Well you're quite right in pointing that out Nexxo, I have indeed contradicted myself. Sign of a poorly formulated arguement, as I'm sure you'll know, but I'm formulating on the fly here, so you'll have to forgive slip ups.
I don't think I stated I didn't have any empathy. In the other thread I stated that I'm against the expectation of morals in every being, and that I'm not against all crime. I didn't deny my humanity, in fact rather I stated that what you suggest is humanity, is exactly the opposite of that. You suggest that humanity is a human doing everything that comes unnaturally to themselves.
I think, there are degrees of care. This was a senseless crime, in which a child was beaten, for no particular reason other then anger. That's not something I'd do, it's not something I would condone, and it's something that I'm happy to see someone goto jail for. I think that still works with my double standard on crime and selfish acts in general.
You seem to think I'm trying to deny my humanity, which I'm not. I'm disagreing with your viewpoint on what humanity is.
this was on the local news
Humanity is not acting like dumb animals. I think that's where we misunderstand each other. You say: "Hey, humans are just another species of animal". I say: "Being human is to strive to exceed your animal nature."
But if you were selfish, you wouldn't care. You'd be indifferent.
You of all people understand that all things come in varying degrees.
It is possible that he could be selfish enough to not care about something as simple as property, which has little emotional value, particularly when it is not yours to be attached to. But that the senseless beating of a developmentally disabled child would inspire some emotion is not ruled out by the above. He could well be in the middle of that selfishness curve, where that which is done to any property but his requires very little justification (it's only property), that which is done to people he is unaware of requires some more justification, and that which is done to the property or people he holds dear requires much justification.
A narrow space, but not one that is unable to exist as defined by its own parameters...it's not contradictory, just a very tight fit.
If he were the reverse, he would be American
Actually, I was referring to his statements here:
I would say that is pretty high in the selfishness curve. So why would he care about someone beating an anonymous child?
