Hmm, maybe so, but I've know people(albeit over IRC) who've been ill for years(with CFS/ME if your intrested), they live in a darkened room most of the time, bright light or noise is painfull, they rarely get to see people other then carers/family, rarely being maybe 3-6 times a year. Some of these people havn't left the room they're in for years, and its not likely they will for years, if ever. If you've wanted to die for the last 5 years, or 10 years, and that feeling has never changed, its a pretty safe bet that if its possible to regret killing yourself in some afterlife, these people won't.

Fair point. But even then alternatives should always be explored first (they certainly should not be left like this for five years). If you don't know all the options, you cannot really make an informed choice. But as I said, the limitations are frequently financial rather than practical.

Well, the point is, these people aren't neccesarily depressed, I know plenty of who've had that possibility explored, they're not, yet some still desire death, I guess my point is that it is possible for a rational mentally healthy person to want to die, given bad circumstances that are unlikely to change, thats all :)

I agree with you on the whole though, often there are problems that could be solved with unlimited funding.

...or just sensible funding and a bit of thinking. I used to work in a Rehab unit where the sinks in the bathroom area had no horizontal surfaces. There were no shelves. It was impossible to put anything down. Great for stroke victims with use of only one arm... Shower rooms had no dry area or shelves to put clothes or towels. Seats in the lounge were too low. The list goes on... better equipment that would just make their lives a bit easier, would not have cost more. But whoever did the outfitting had their brain in neutral and forgot to consult those people who could have told them exactly what would be suitable: staff and more importantly, the patients. :duh:
