https://www.theregister.com/2021/01/21/dept_education_school_laptops_malware/ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-55749959 this has been one the news site today, one of my sons friends has infected laptop and his parents asked me to look at it. windows defender was flagging up i booted it up in safe mode and ran windows defender which says it found the malware and removed it. anyone know if any thing else needs doing or checking before i give the kid the net book back? also his dad has a dell laptop would it be best to check that as well?
Interesting - because the statement I've seen from the DFE claimed that the malware was caught at the provisioning stage, and never made it to end user deployments...
that's what i thought but windows defender was flagging it up, his mum said teachers dropped off the laptop fully boxed and not opened with just a leaflet explaining how to log on to the apps and sites the schools uses and since they have been using it they just ignored it till his mum saw it on the bbc news site. his dads laptop is clean. have told the parents to get in touch with the school.
