Displays Screen going black/losing signal for a couple of seconds

I can't remember if its happened during any other games or whilst on being on the desktop, but it has happened when playing battlefield 4. It basically goes black for a couple of seconds then comes back, but it's like the monitor has lost signal, because a small black box telling you what the resolution/refresh rate is also appears then goes away again.

Could it be something simple like a faulty HDMI cable or my gpu overheating?

My girlfriend was using my computer, she said it was doing it whilst web browsing, so it's not just gaming.

 

u could try a different cable or port, also make sure the cable isn't loose.
you have the correct drivers installed?

 

I've swapped to another HDMI and so far so good. Fingers crossed that was the issue.

 

ah, i have had issue's with hdmi lead's so hopefully that's fixed for you.
