I'm planning on buying a cheaper scroll saw, something like this one. They always mention wood, but could I cut aluminium on any scroll saw, of course using proper blade? This one here says it can cut alu, but it's more expensive. Which scrollsaw do you guys use to cut alu?
Links are not working without being logged in unfortunately, but usually you can cut thin sheets of aluminum (1-2mm) with a scrollsaw using a metal-blade. The scrollsaws from Proxxon (http://www.proxxon.com/en/micromot/27088.php?list @ ~€150 and http://www.proxxon.com/en/micromot/28092.php?list @ ~€220) for example have no problems with cutting thin sheets of aluminum and they're only 85-200W. EDIT: needed to force the site to display in UK-mode... both of these should be able to cut upto 2mm of aluminum with a metal-blade.
I've seen all his projects - but he's got huge hardcore badass scroll saw (excalibur)... I'm after a lot cheaper than his
You should be fine, it's really all about feed rates tbh. The smaller the saw the slower your progress, but it'll still manage it. Just remember to find the correct blades. Aluminium is nice and soft, no different than cutting a sheet of hardwood really.
