    Hi
I have a scsi hdd that I wat to hook up to my new rig, unfortunatly my new mobo doesnt have a scsi port :waah: , is it possible to buy/make a scsi adaptor? Is there a pci scsi card available that would work with a hdd?

    Any advise would be great

There are many many PCI scsi cards out there. Adaptec make good ones, try e-bay to avoid paying huge amounts for a new one.

Hi Ln2OC, I note you're in Dublin also. I don't know if this is the right forum but I have an Adaptec 39160 - dual channel ultra 160 PCI-X Card for sale if you need it.

I've sent you a PM in case you miss this post.

Im running a mixture of U320 SCSI HDD's on my rig, im using an Adaptec 29160N that I bought off fleabay for about 25 quid. Its a PCI card (not PCI-X so doesnt require a 64bit PCI slot) and works really well, you can run up to 15 drives off of one channel with no worries of performance loss as SCSI has NCQ (native command queuing - the technology that most SATA drives now have).

So search ebay for 29160N, there are plenty out there ...

PCI-X Cards will work in a standard PCI slot they will just run at PCI's native 32bit rather then PCI-X's 64bit.

The total number of devices you can run off a single SCSI Channel is 15, so that would mean 14 HDD and one ID for the Controller itself unless you start messing with Luns!

actually, there are 16 IDs - up to 15 and inclusive of 0

meaning you can have 15 drives per channel and one ID for the controller

in a 32/33 pci slot i woudnt recommend running much more than a few drives, as while scsi can quite happily handle it, youre still piping it through a bus with a maxumum theoretical bandwidth of 133MB/sec
