    Hi bit-techs'

I'm searching for a windows program which can record what I can see and do on my computer screen. I need it to make some introductional video for my blog.

    1. It can record sound from my mic and computer.
    2. It can generate .MP4 or .FLV video files so I can upload them to YouTube.
    3. Freeware is appreciated and I can pay for a little if it's a low-costed program.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    R.C

    Thanks Syn

I check Camtasia and find it's pretty cool. But I feel a little bit nervous about the price.
It's a great thing to choose a great program, and it's a tough thing to pay $300 for it.

Could you please introduce some alternatives which are, at a lower price? My budget is about $100.

    Thanks.

I have used SuperScreenRecorder a few times and it worked fine. You can try the demo and see how it works for you

    It's also nowhere near 300$ for a license ;)

I use fraps. It is a lot lower cost that previously mentioned Camtasia, and it is reasonably easy to use. The UI isn't perfect but for the low price tag you can't complain. The only issue I have with it is that the output files that I get from it are incredibly big, this may be due to my distinct lack of knowledge about the product, but just a thought.

If anyone that uses Fraps could let me know about changing the file size of the output fle I would be grateful. (I haven't used it in ages however, and there is probs a simple setting that I have missed... :p )

Fraps can only record in games, not on the desktop.

It outputs raw, uncompressed files. You need to compress them with video editing software afterwards to reduce the file size.

Knuck is right BTW, Fraps isn't able to record outside of fullscreen applications, so I don't know how you managed to record the desktop with it.

To be fair, I don't see anywhere in my post that stated I recorded my desktop with it... I just said that I used it to record things. (It was a full screen application I used it for, hence why I didn't mention recording desktop things in my post)

But thanks for the info on the issue with the output file.

    Thanks you all.

I search Fraps in Google and find many video gamers discussing about it. It might be OK but I wonder if I choose the right tool to make a desktop video.

It seems that SuperScreenRecorder is one member of the "super series family". I check out the homepage and find I need to buy other three related recorders to make it full featured. That's really a big deal.

I find a screen recording software list at wiki and check out some of them.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_screencasting_software

Finally I aim at DemoCreator and BB Flashback. The former gets a built-in video editor in Office 2007 ribbon which looks user-friendly, and the latter has an express version which is free and supports webcam recording.

And yep both of them meet my three demands listed in my first post.

I appreciated your replies because it's the first time I using screen recording software (finally I know the right name to call it) and you really help me a lot. Thank you and all bit-techs.

Hope you can give me a hand next time when I get stuck recording my screen. I'm sure :)

I use BBflashback for screen recording and can recommend it. Easy to use and good output.
