Sitting in my room for a while now i've got a HP Pavillion N5331 laptop. The laptop itself works ok, but it has to be plugged into an external screen, because the backlight cable on the screen for it has become sheared off somehow. I''ve been thinking about making this into a little nix' box, as the system itself works fine, but I would like to get the screen repaired. Any ideas, how easily I could replace the backlight, or where to get a screen from for a half decent cheap price?
Well i've had the screen out the casing, but there isn't an obvious way, as it's sheared where is comes out the metal surrounding the screen. I guess I could try taking it apart again in the morning when it's a bit lighter, seeing if anything can be done. Also i've not picked up a soldering iron in about 4 years, so I'm thikning i'd need to practise on something...like my main rig
well just last week i was able to completely disassemble my HP Pavillion ZV6000 and noticed that if anything happened to the monitor cable i could just re-solder it.
Try and find HP's FRU number for the screen, inverter, or whatever is really broken. then use that on ebay. A good ODM usally sources parts from multiple sources so the screen could be one of a number from different makers. But if it is just a wire, splice it, replace it, etc. If you are worried about the connections, use heat shrink tubing.
i have a laptop monitor that is of no use to me i beleive it is working ill check the model number when i get home
