Hi, 1. I backed up my Seagate win8 "C" partition, using Paragon, in the spare Maxtor HD & it used 61.9GB, the rest 50gb are free space. As Win8 was installed in "C" I presumed that The Maxtor if installed alone in the PC it would boot up but, it does not. Should't it? 2. The other thing is that when I boot the PC in w8 both HDs show up in the Setup but, the Maxtor does not show up in the w8 win explorer. If I boot up in the dual boot XP they both show up in the XP win explorer. ....thanx ....nick
If you only cloned the data partition, and not the boot partition then no, the other disk will not be bootable. If it's not showing up in explorer, try open disk management and assign it a drive letter.
Have you tried remapping drive http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/fl/change-drive-letters-windows-8.htm Had an issue the other day that I'd get USB notification sounds, but drive wouldn't show. That fixed it
Thanx, unfortunately is not cloned but Imaged. if it does not show up how can the letter be changed? .....nick
1. I changed to EaseUS & cloned my Maxtor with "C" from my win 8 PC again but, Maxtor refuses to boot. 2. Maxtor shows up in w8 now after I used "diskmgmt.m" & gave it a Letter K ....nick
Primary disk have other partition than C typically, like recovery/system reserved/efi/msr partition. Generally the boot files live in those partition, so if you don't include them with the clone it can't be bootable copy. You need to choose full disk clone, not partition image only.
I changed to EaseUS Free & this time cloned instead of backup my spare 160gb Maxtor with "C" from my win 8 PC but, Maxtor refuses to boot. It probably needs complete PC clone to boot but, unfortunately my Maxtor is only 160gb & could try the clone only for C.
