Right i have a q6600@stock speeds (carnt everclock its a dell mobo...i know i know, mistake) And a HD2600XT which im upgrading at xmas. And im getting these PPD They seem way low compared to the 1000's you guys talk about.
The reason for the low PPD on the CPU is that you're running the standard client which is only running 1 of the 4 cores. The easiest way to boost your ppd is to stop running this and use the SMP client, which will use more of your CPU, outputting a couple of thousand ppd. Alternatively, there are several guides on this forum on how to install two virtual machines on your system, each running the SMP client. This will generate the most ppd as the Windows SMP client isn't particularly efficient at using more than 2 CPU cores.
With a Q6600 at stock you should be getting anywhere between 3500 and 4200PPD with the SMP client depending on the WU you are processing. Take a look at THIS thread on the maximumpc forum for instructions on how to set up a VM with the Notfred client. This will give you the best PPD on your CPU
That's not what FahMon is showing. The Core is 'Amber', and the deadline is almost a month; both indicate you are running the classic client. If you were running SMP then the Core would be 'SMP Gromacs' and the deadline would be 5 days.
hmm well i downloaded the multicore one off the 'performance clients page' im sure i did=/ EDIT: I did the install.bat but not sure what you mean by the -smp?
Create a shortcut to the folding@home-Win32-x86.exe Right click it & go to properties. In the target bit add -smp to the line & click OK. Let the current WU finish. Stop the client & click on your shortcut. Voila, SMP folding
